Instagram failure

thefrostmoon · 23/11/2023 12:39

Decided to set up an Instagram profile (thefrostmoon) as I love taking photos. Not a single view or like.

What am I doing wrong? 😔

Are you using some hashtags or locations?

D20 · 23/11/2023 12:43

I think I’ve found you. Give it time you’ve not even been up 24 hours yet! When you are starting out likes for likes works well too. Like some similar pages, see who has liked their photos and follow them - might draw some interest to your profile.

LoveTheDarts · 23/11/2023 12:48

Upload something everyday. Like and comment on other peoples stuff, follow people that interest you.

Get your family and friend to like, comment and save your stuff to boost it in the algorithm

Use relevant hashtags.

Give it time.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 23/11/2023 12:56

You only have two posts! It will take time and you are doing the right things. Have a look at what tags similar popular photography accounts use.

The photo of the cabbage is lovely.

Edit: your bio sounds like it's selling vegetables, make it clearer it's a photography account

LifeofBrienne · 23/11/2023 13:12

I think with Insta you can get followers by using it to connect with real-life friends, or else post mainly around one genre and focus on finding people who have similar accounts to yours, e.g. garden photos.
By finding the right people to follow you can have a lovely feed full of nice pictures. The very popular accounts aren’t likely to follow you back but there are plenty of ordinary gardeners out there with nice photos who’d be happy to follow you back if you share interests. A good way of finding them I find is searching for specific hashtags of plant names, or looking at who comments on posts.

hopeishere · 23/11/2023 13:12

Do you understand how Instagram works? People won't stumble on your account by chance. You need to do a lot of work to get people to follow you. As pp said follow other accounts, use hastags, comment on people's pictures etc etc

I've followed, you'll have to follow everyone back, then see who else they follow, then follow those people...it's time consuming!

Use your story as well, moving images catch people's eye, and reels with trending music get more notice.

I've got 3.3k followers, still only get 20-50 likes on posts whereas on FB I've got 14k following and get upto 20k reactions per post! Instagram is hard work!

Xmaswomble · 23/11/2023 19:13

You’ve posted

  • 1 picture of a cabbage
  • 1 picture of a plant

you have 15 followers.

what are you expecting? Do you know how Insta works?

You can’t see who’s viewed a normal photo

You’ve just posted this for followers haven’t you?

I’m a little surprised, you’ve posted a pic of a cabbage and a flower, what do you expect?

Totally!

OP, you’ve had your page up for what, a day?! It take months to grow even a small platform. Genuinely, what are you expecting?!

Terfosaurus · 23/11/2023 19:27

It's hardly a failure after a day!

softfig · 23/11/2023 19:52

Nice little plug to gain new followers OP.

Instagram takes time and effort to grow your following. It doesn't happen in one day and 2 pics. You have to post daily, consistently. Post stories and reels, use trending sounds and hashtags, think about what you're writing in your captions. Follow, engage and comment on other pages/posts you like. Don't go through someone else's followers and add them all. You need to know who your ideal follower is and think about how you can drawn them into your page. Not many people are interested in looking at cabbages.

Frasers · 23/11/2023 20:11

I guess if you go on multiple forums and post this you can build a following very quickly by folks who feel sorry for you.

GalileoHumpkins · 23/11/2023 20:13

Did you expect to have gone viral by now?

Xmaswomble · 23/11/2023 21:27

Hey - anyone heard of that new cabbage insta photo - it’s 🔥

junbean · 23/11/2023 21:32

Are you posting because you love photography or because you want likes? 🤔

Xmaswomble · 23/11/2023 21:32

Hi Karen and Jaime!
