Do you laugh out loud at films/tv/social media?

I laugh a lot in my normal life but films, tv and social media it takes a lot to make me genuinely laugh. I enjoy a comedy and it’ll make me smile but uncontrollable laughter or even a burst of laughter. Just me?

I remember watching an episode of Friends when I was little and my friend was rolling around on the floor laughing and I was just 🙂

I can't go to comedy clubs/nights for this reason. Even if I find something funny, I won't laugh out loud. Then you just look like you're being miserable when everyone around you is laughing!

Like you, I laugh a lot in my normal life. But that's because the comedy is random and unplanned I think. I can find TV etc funny but again, rarely laugh out loud funny.

AuntMarch · 23/11/2023 12:27

Rarely. And even more rare when I'm on my own for some reason - not sure what difference company makes, but it does!

Itsenough4now · 23/11/2023 12:32

Am often just amused but Taskmaster has me in stitches. I think it's the only thing that regularly makes me laugh out loud.

Saverage · 23/11/2023 13:08

Yes quite often. And I don't think many people would describe me as a jolly person. Maybe I just find it easy to hone in on things that entertain me.

EversoDisorganised · 23/11/2023 13:12

Rarely. I watch Taskmaster with DH and DD and they will be hooting with laughter while I'm just smiling a bit. I mainly laugh when chatting to other people, we have a good chat routine at work breaktimes and I often end up wiping my eyes from laughter.

SallyWD · 23/11/2023 13:13

I hardly ever laugh out loud. I don't know why as I actually have a good sense of humour and love comedy. If I go to a comedy show, I see everyone around me crying with laughter whereas I might just smile.
It makes me feel like there's something weird about me!
I do laugh sometimes when funny/silly things happen. Sometimes I get the giggles and can't stop. Generally though I don't laugh out loud when everyone else is!

Ragwort · 23/11/2023 13:15

Very, very rarely ... my DH is currently re-watching Friends and is hysterical with loud laughter, I can't even watch it, it's just not 'my thing' at all.

idontlikealdi · 23/11/2023 13:21

Animal tik toks make me properly snort. Tv not so much

LubaLuca · 23/11/2023 13:21

Yes, all the time. I was listening to a podcast this morning that made me properly laugh (Clinton Baptiste).

catscalledbeanz · 23/11/2023 13:24

I'm the opposite and laugh readily at anything I find funny. I hate it and wish I could control it as I feel like sometimes people find it a bit much . My mother once accused me of performative laughter and it stuck with me.

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 23/11/2023 13:24

You didn’t laugh at Friends because it’s shite and not funny so don’t worry!

I do laugh out loud sometimes if it’s really funny. Love when dh laughs out loud at something or proper belly laughs.

I remember watching The Inbetweeners at the cinema and the part where they are dancing to We No Speak Americano in the bar and the laughter was crazy.

When we left my friend insisted that I clearly hated the film as I hadn’t laughed once - I actually did enjoy it 🤷‍♀️

Yes, sometimes. Though I am not keen on Taskmaster, it's all a bit too deliberate and based on embarassment for me.

MyCircumference · 23/11/2023 13:29

yes i do
and books

APurpleSquirrel · 23/11/2023 13:30

Yes I laugh out loud a lot at tv/film etc. DH & I go to see comedians regularly & as I know which I like, I will be laughing & sometimes crying if it's really good.

Louloulouenna · 23/11/2023 13:32

Sometimes and only if it is really really funny. I cannot stand the performative laughing that some people seem to be compelled to do at the theatre and I will never ever see a Shakespeare comedy again live for this reason. Or any other “highbrow” comedy production.

TotalOverhaul · 23/11/2023 13:32

Yes, all the time. I got through Covid by watching back to back stand up routines and laughing my guts up!

Stephisaur · 23/11/2023 15:05

I usually let out a little chuckle, it takes a lot to really get me belly laughing.

I didn't used to laugh out loud often at all, but I did read somewhere that laughter puts you in a better mood, so I do try and 'let go' a bit more than I used to.

Teatrayderby · 23/11/2023 15:06

There is a viral video of a cat playing a piano and I end up laughing and streaming with tears every time. I don't know why!

notprincehamlet · 23/11/2023 15:16

I love comedy but don't often laugh out loud at it. However the penis painter doing the eyes in Fisk made me roar. Also Fenton!

SuitYouSir · 23/11/2023 15:20

I know what you mean. My parents laugh SO MUCH at things, I used to be kept up at night hearing my mum hooting with laughter over e.g. Father Ted. I do find these things funny, I just don’t translate that into a physical laugh when it’s on TV.

I’m more likely to laugh out loud at a live comedy gig but I think the atmosphere makes me more laughy.

Copasetic · 23/11/2023 16:31

Not much but every time I rewatch This Country I do!

HobbleY · 23/11/2023 16:50

I find certain comedy films funny or things I see on social media, I’ll laugh but I don’t exactly roll around laughing or cry with laughter.

I don’t really find stand up comedians
funny. I appreciate some of the jokes and the wit, but they don’t make me laugh.

My dear mum on the other hand, really laughs out loud at pictures/memes to do with dogs, she loves them & finds them hilarious. I don’t really get it🤣
We have quite different sense of humours though.

My dad laughs at silly comedy, he likes all the slapstick, old school stuff. When I was still living at home, I’d hear his booming laugh from all the way upstairs.
