Electrical mumsnetters - can I extend a lamp cable?

We’ve got an unusually long living/dining room and a real shortage of plugs. It’s feeling dingy and I feel we need a lamp in a place where there is no plug. An electrician has said the only way to get one in this specific place to lift the floor and come in through various walls. It’s a messy, expensive job. I’m trying to think of alternatives. We got a battery powered lamp but it wasn’t very bright and needed new batteries regularly. Now I’m wondering if there is a way of putting on a very long power cable onto a lamp, and clipping it around a door frame/behind curtains to a plug. Is that possible?

A slimmer version of an extension cable? Is there anything I’m missing?! Help me light up my room!!

I don't know the answer to your question but there's some rechargeable table lamps in Next that might help
