I take carbamazepine/Tegretol also for TN and take 400mg per day which keeps the pain at bay really well! I was also concerned about the weight gain issue but I haven’t found this to be a problem and I’ve been on it 3 years! I have yearly blood tests to check liver, kidneys etc but again, all seems okay!

Thanku. The amitriptyline gives me awful side effects so I can't up the dose. I'm sensitive to tablets I usually have to half what is first proscribed then increase slowly. They r starting me on 100mg a day for 7 days I plan to try 50 first and see how I get on. If all goes well I'm to take 2 a day from then. My TN has been so painful since February it's really starting to get to me now. Last night was the worst night I have had. The pain was unbearable. I hope this medications works.
