Feeling Fed Up - Rejection from role after very positive interview

A few weeks ago I was interviewed for a role that I am more than qualified to do.

I have had a period of time off to care for disabled teenagers and am ready to return to work, this was explained at the interview.

During the interview I was told that my experience was relevant and exceptional and was asked if I would consider working on a more senior team to reflect this.

I therefore felt it was almost certain I would meet the criteria for the original role, if not one higher. They were recruiting for a number of positions and it is highly unlikely that they would have interviewed another person with more relevant experience.

I have had to chase a number of times and now have been told I was unsuccessful I have asked for feedback.

Is this really how it is going to be? This is the 3rd role I have applied for after the career break and the first one I have been interviewed for.

I'm feeling so despondent.

They clearly liked you, but you won't always be the right fit for each role. They may be still considering you for the other role, or might not have budget to resolve that yet; re-expressing your interest in that would be useful. All you can do is take the positive that you got interviewed and had good feedback, then keep applying until the right role turns up.
