I've heard I should avoid caffeine beforehand and drink plenty of water. Is there anything else I should know? Also, is it customary to tip the artist in this country or is that just something I've seen the Americans do? 😄

I've got about 12 tattoos, some hidden some very obvious and regret them all.

I'm in the Don't Do It camp too. Sorry!

12 and you regret them all?! Did you get them done too young and poor designs by a bad artist or something? I don’t know why else you'd have carried on. Most people stop after one or two they regret. 12 is being silly. You can do what you like with your own skin, as can everyone else but 12? What's the reasoning behind them all that you feel this way?

Don't waste your money, is my hot tip.

jellybe · 23/11/2023 03:44

Take something to listen to or at lest headphones (where I get mine done has screens at each station so you can watch Netflix).

Have a good meal before hand and drink plenty of water. Also make sure you are fresh as a daisy as your tattoo artist will be up close and personal iyswim

Enjoy it!

So you saw why OP is having the tattoo and still wrote this tripe?

Why?

Give it some thought, I sat next to a girl in a clinic waiting room on Monday who was having hers lasered off - slow and painful and expensive she said

Why? Have you RTFT? Did this post make you feel good?

I have over 50 and there's only one I did regret and have lasered off. I was 21 when I got it.

Love all the rest, most of the others I got when I was in my late 20s/early 30s and knew what I wanted.

MRSMTO · 23/11/2023 06:58

@MRSMTO oh I know... only on Mumsnet eh! I was expecting a few of them (though surprised how many), but I'm only interested in the helpful answers - of which there are also many

I had a huge tattoo on my tummy in august, a full day session. I covered myself in Emla cream from the chemist and wrapped cling film round it 2 hours before and I didn't feel a thing from 9am til 3am (it certainly kicked in after that tho!) Never used it on my others before and it was a god send!

How did you manage to get to 12 and regret them all?! Were you young and naive when you had them all done?
I sensibly waited until my 30s to start having mine, when I knew exactly what i wanted and where.

G5000 · 23/11/2023 11:13

I can understand regretting tattoos you got when 18 and drunk in Magaluf, like you might regret many other things you did when 18 and drunk in Magaluf. I rarely regret decisions I have taken in my 40s.

I got them all between 18 and 30. I was very alternative, piercings, tattoos, very goth.

I'm now 40 and grown out of it, it's been 10 years since my last tattoo and just wish I didn't have any.

They're all very well done, expensive tattoos from award winning artists but I just wish I didn't have them.

SuperDuperCabriolet · 25/11/2023 13:31

Non of them are 'bad'

The first few small ones I got ended up being covered up by larger pieces. I get compliments about them all the time but I'm just a different person than I was 10 years ago and would rather have bare skin.

You don't see court Judges with Tattoos.

I beg to differ. Some of them are tattooed but you don't see them because they're robed up.

FuckHonestlyKnows · 06/12/2023 19:32

How did you get on @MysticMary

I plead guilty to digressing, as it’s not directly related to a judge, but Lady Churchill, Winston Churchill’s wife had a tattoo. And that was long ago.

She did. Wasn't it a snake around her wrist?

A few royalty had tattoos back yonder too.

one of the 20th century Georges had a load, right? maybe from his time in the navy?
