Should I get my eyes checked?

I'm late 40s, don't wear glasses, always had good eyesight.
For the first time this week, I'm having to hold books or anything with small print away from me to be able to read it - it becomes blurry when too close.
This has shocked me a bit but I know it's probably to be expected at my age.
Do I need to do anything yet?

It sounds like it's heading towards time for reading glasses. It comes to us all. :-)

food Labels are the worst (I’m 46)

Reading glasses in every room…..

You should get your eyes checked regularly regardless of glasses wearing or not. Def go!

Agree with this! My recent eye test showed up a health issue that has nothing to do with vision and would have got worse without intervention.

Yes, go and get your eyes tested. You won't have noticed small deterioration in your sight over time so it's highly likely you need glasses.

Exactly. Once a year. If you work at a screen work need to pay (or contribute).

Changes to your eyesight can be so subtle over time that you could miss something. I'd been having my eyesight checked every two years since my 20s when I first needed glasses, then in my 50s my eyesight has rapidly deteriorated.

Dp thought his eyes had just got a little worse recently. Having had them tested and now having glasses he realises how bad they actually were.
