Any WhatsApp experts on here?

My son has smashed his iPhone so has put his SIM card in his old phone. WhatsApp want to send a code to his old phone to authenticate the account but obviously can't see anything on his old screen He's happy to start a new WhatsApp but deleting it and reinstalling it still seems to be linked. Help!

Hi if his WhatsApp was backed up then it should reinstall on his new phone if you're using the same number

To re install it, it wants to send a security code which it says needs to go to his old phone (which he can't see on the screen of!)

I've just had to do the same as my old phone died but It didn't want to send a code to my old phone

My ds had the same issue. We had an email exchange with WhatsApp customer service who were no help so in the end we got a new SIM card.

I was just having a look online. Was his Phone backed up to the cloud? As you may be able to get it back through that

Working somehow with old sim. Lost old messages though.

Plug the old iphone into a computer/laptop, and the screen can mirror on to the computer/laptop screen and go from there. I've no idea what cable though as a chap at work did mine for me when I had the same issue!

I've changed phones many times and don't remember ever having to get a code for the WhatsApp. If the SIM card is in the new phone how would a message get to the old phone?

I'm struggling to understand the problem.

He put his SIM into a new phone. When WA send the code to his phone it will come to his new phone. That's the point - the code goes to the mobile number they have for him.

Am I not understanding something?

Nope it tells him it's going to his old phone. I've taken the phone to have the screen fixed so hopefully the guy can sort it out!

Unfortunately we weren't prompted to get a text. I tried it a few times. So weird.

'Texts' (SMS messages) can only ever come through the the mobile with the corresponding SIM.

If his SIM is in another phone the text will go to that.
It won't go to his old phone as you've removed the SIM

Option to receive a text. It's having the screen repaired so hopefully by the morning we can re instate the WhatsApp

Not possible unless WhatsApp was backed up to icloud / googledrive etc.

Is he able to get to the setting section on WhatsApp? If so what happens when pressed linked devices, link new device and then at the very bottom presses "link with phone number instead"

Nope he can't get into WhatsApp at all. He just wants to download it new but it won't let him to that.
