Security clearance. Mind your own business

Name changed for obvious reasons.
Dh has been told that his security clearance needs renewing. He’s worked for the same employer for years, so no idea why it needs to be revised. Nothing has changed. He isn’t applying for a job with higher security.
Anyway, he needs me to fill in the section about my financial security. I agreed, thinking it would be the usual, ‘how much do you earn, what are your outgoings’, etc, but I was surprised to see questions on the value of my jewellery and car. Questions on my credit card limits and questions on investments, ISA’s, etc. Can I refuse to answer them. It’s none of their business. Neither of us have any debt and we both have healthy credit scores. I really don’t understand why they need such in depth info. Any ideas?

Imagine if this level of scrutiny was for politicians! The conflicts of interest and susceptibility to bribery / blackmail…

What kind of job is that?

If I told you that I'd have to kill you...

Its actually a dull standard government job. Lots of them know extremely sensitive stuff.

If, as everyone says, they have access to all this information anyway why don't they just do a credit check.

I've had to do this before but I was going through a divorce at the time but as we were technically married I need to be included. I said no on that basis, not sure what happened to be honest but he continued to work there.

Because it’s a test of honesty. And financial information is just one component.

What you have been asked for sounds like DV clearance .I would suspect he works elsewhere.

I agree with this, sounds like DV.

OP confirmed it was DV.

LadyFlumpalot · 24/11/2023 12:53

All those on this thread saying they hold SC or DV... you do know you are NOT supposed to tell people that right, especially with DV. The guidelines literally say you must not disclose it on social media. Yes, this website is supposedly anonymous but your average advanced search of a user name usually gives you enough to go on.

I ve not worked for any SC/DV company for over 2 years, so clearance has lapsed.
Whilst you re correct, it would be quite difficult to find out who actually has SC DV clearances, rather than bullshitters, on this forum.

If you have the ability to find someone's IP address and then tie that to an IPs and then a property/name, you don't need MN.

BeyondMyWits · 24/11/2023 19:00

It's my husband who holds it and they have no rights to tell me to shut up...

though as I live in the real world, in an area with a well known civil service department, (where dv is a requirement), everyone knows someone who works there, so hey ho, journalists abound in the local pubs.
