Disconnect from social media

I want to be that person who can disconnect from social media. Honestly it's one of the main issues for my spending addiction - seeing adverts all the time for stuff that I don't need but like so I end up buying and wasting money.

Nothing exciting happens on my SM lol. I'm thinking of completely disconnecting from it all and deactivating my accounts.

Any tips on how I can successfully do this?

I'm an anxious person and when feeling so, I always reach for my phone and then spend money, so I need to break this habit.

Going cold turkey scares me lol.

Just do it.

Practice not having your phone with you at all times. Eg, don't take it downstairs with you in the morning or whatever.

Take up a new hobby.

I need my phone nearby as have family who depend on me, but suppose no harm leaving it on loud upstairs..

Cold turkey deletion is the only way to do it or you'll keep logging back on. I don't mean delete the apps off your phone I mean delete the actual accounts at source.

Go cold turkey. I never planned to leave social media, I genuinely thought it was helping my mental health by making me feel less lonely. But then my phone got stolen and I didn't get a replacement for two weeks, and I have not had the urge to work in to social media apps since

It truly is an addiction similar to alcohol or drugs.

I deleted everything 6 years ago and not looked back! It's the best thing I ever did for my mental health!

Also don't worry about losing contact with people, make sure anyone overseas has your contact details and then just delete all accounts!

I only plan to keep WhatsApp and messenger, nothing else. So X, instagram and Facebook would be gone!

You can use a blocker like freedom app that blocks certain sites and apps.

do it ! I deleted the apps but kept the passwords and have a look every few months via web browser. I ain’t missed much !

also if you unsubscribe from all the marketing emails you will spend SO MUCH less money. Takes a while but just do it. Instant £100 a month

Yeah that's what I plan to do :)

Every time an email comes in, i unsubscribe. I've cancelled my monthly subscriptions too such as glossy box and monthly gel nail polish subscription
