Dentists/dental nurses... wisdom teeth question

Hello!

I'm 37 and none of my wisdom teeth had emerged through the gum. 2 years ago I started getting a mild niggling pain in a molar on the bottom left and went to the dentist who showed me a tiny bit of wisdom tooth peeping through the gum on the bottom left which was causing the niggling. Fast forward 2 years and still the wisdom tooth is only just showing partially and there has been no pain until today with some mild pain. Been to the dentist and I have a deep cavity on the molar before the partially erupted wisdom and not sure if I'll need root canal or not depending on how the filling goes.

Just wondering... if the filling failed and I had the molar extracted rather than root canal would the extra space encourage the wisdom tooth to come through? Has anyone had experience of something similar? I find it strange I haven't had any wisdom teeth fully through at all.

You need to have this conversation with your dentist- they can see from xrays what position your wisdom tooth is in and the chances of it coming through into the space. Sometimes they are pointing completely in the wrong direction!

No guarantees though, even if the position is good
