Interim or full service?

Need to get the car booked in for MOT and service next month, it had a full service last year but we've done 13,000 miles this year, would you get another full one on that basis? Have tried Googling but a bit suspicious when it's all the car garages telling me it has to be a full whilst trying to sell me one so thought I'd get an unbiased opinion before committing!

Look at your cars maintenance book, service intervals are there.

Normally you have a minor service ar free a major one though.

@jennytheonionslayer thank you, this is what confuses me because the Ford website says annually for our car type, but when you buy a service plan from them they only give you one of the bigger ones followed by smaller the 2 following years, unless I am confusing the difference between a major and full perhaps? Maybe they're different things.

It depends! What was included in last year’s major service and what’s on offer for the minor service?

A minor will normally be just an oil/filter change with the major adding in things like air/cabin/fuel filters, maybe plugs if it’s a petrol. It’s unlikely to need air/cabin/fuel filters after a year and 13k miles for example.

What is the model and what year is your car? I worked for a Ford dealer for 10 years so should be able to help.

hiddle · 20/11/2023 16:27

@Shade17 thank you, I will see what's included.

@cockerspaniel it's a (late) 2015
Ford focus ecoboost.

According to Ford a focus of that age is a full/major service yearly or every 12500 miles. So looks like you want the major service.

@cockerspaniel thank you!

I think Ford refer to an interim as an oil/filter and a full as that plus a pollen filter. Presumably things like air filter/plugs have other intervals and will be added accordingly when due. It’s worth checking when the brake fluid was last changed as well, if it’s more than about 3 years that’s worth getting done.
