Currently in Gran Canaria and fly home today
We have done 10 days and I'm ready for home
We have ventured out a few times but mostly around the pool.
I'm so ready for home now
What's everyone's magic number ?

We tend to go for seven as it never feels enough and we wished we could stay a bit longer. This helps you to feel like you've had a really good holiday. Ten days is ideal. Fourteen is too long and expensive!

HarrietStyles · 20/11/2023 13:05

A month would be nice…….. I can dream.

TeenDivided · 20/11/2023 13:10

I prefer 10. 7 seems too short, 14 can be too long.
Unfortunately we often do self catering which tend to be by the week.

funbags3 · 20/11/2023 13:12

Long haul holidays are 14 days min. European hols, usually a week and I've had enough.

AlanJohnsonsBeemer · 20/11/2023 13:12

10 but if was just sitting around a pool I think 7 would be long enough. We did 15 nights this summer and it was eyewateringly expensive and was ready to come home and see the cat and be in my nice house and bed towards the end

Fourecks · 20/11/2023 19:18

It depends where you're going. I'm Australian and did 14 days to Europe once and it felt very short. If you're staying in the one place, then I can see 10 days being a stretch, whereas if you're moving around to different places, it can feel rushed.

biscuitcat · 20/11/2023 19:23

I agree it really depends where you're going - we did an all inclusive in Tenerife last year and a week was perfect, I'd have been bored if we did 10 days or longer, but if you're going to several locations or it's more an adventure type holiday than a fly-and-flop job then longer is better - we're going away for nearly three weeks in January for a holiday like that and it's only budget which is bringing us back early (hooray for maternity leave meaning I don't need to consider annual leave allowance!).

ProvisionsOnTheDock · 20/11/2023 19:25

I hate being away for longer than 4 nights so mostly do city breaks.

I like a fortnight, but ds gets homesick after 2-3 days so we normally compromise on a week. He knows not to keep asking when we're going home then.

reluctantbrit · 20/11/2023 20:08

I don't like 7 days, far too short. For resort holidays with a mix of beach and sightseeing we do 10.
Anything with exploring, sightseeing, activities we do 14, especially if it is a longer travel involved, I wish we could do more.

LucyTeatime · 20/11/2023 20:13

I agree with Michael McIntyre - 9 is the absolute maximum I can endure.

MaggieFS · 20/11/2023 20:18

Lounging by a pool and not leaving the vicinity... 10.

Anything else... indefinite. There's a whole world to see!

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 20/11/2023 20:21

We normally go for 3 weeks, but we travel around so we only stay in one place for a couple of nights before moving on to the next place.

watchyourfriends · 20/11/2023 20:30

10 for me. 7 days is too short and 14 feels too long. If we didn’t have little kids then I could do months away.

LimeOrangeLemon · 20/11/2023 20:32

10 is good, especially if you take 2 weeks off work and can have a couple of days at home chilling out rather than rushing straight back to work.

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 20/11/2023 20:35

Really depends where you’re going and what you’re doing.

All inclusive - 7 days is perfect and I’m ready to come home

Villa with a pool and days out - 14 days is good and I feel rested and ready to come home

Florida holiday with Disney and Universal - 21 days is ideal to do it all and have some rest days in between

shivbo2014 · 20/11/2023 20:37

Always 14, I want to feel like I want to get home and be excited. Not feeling like I could have a couple more days.

kavalert · 20/11/2023 20:41

I'd be happiest with 14 but we tend to go for 10 so DH has more annual leave to spread through the year (I'm a sahm). We usually have very busy holidays visiting lots of different places, often staying in 2-3 locations. I'd be very bored with a holiday in the same place around a pool and only seeing a few sights.

RandomUsernameHere · 20/11/2023 20:45

Long haul or main holiday definitely 2 weeks. Actually any holiday the longer the better as far as I'm concerned Grin but obviously annual leave allowance and budget only go so far!

TheFairyCaravan · 20/11/2023 20:46

We usually do 11 nights because I find 14 nights too long.

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 20/11/2023 20:50

Depends what I'm doing. I don't typically spend more than 3 or 4 days in one location.

One of my best trips was 4 weeks long in South America.

I spent 9 days driving around Iceland and could happily have doubled that.

I could probably stretch to a week in Tenerife, with hiking and whatnot.
