Bad Hair Day Snl GIF by Saturday Night Live

Currently sitting in Gatwick Airport waiting for my flight home, have been here 4 hours and counting so plenty of time to have a wander round and I'm wondering why there are no hairdressers in airports? I'd love the opportunity to get a blow dry now, my hair feels awful from travel stress and im sure I'd feel much better if I could get it done and my make up too if I'm feeling greedy!!
Surely that's a great idea, plenty of people here waiting round with not much to do once you've shopped and eaten.
Would anyone else like to get theirs done? I can't be the only one!
This is how I feel right now!! 😂😂

I use to work in the Gatwick Hilton hairdressers years ago. I'm talking 1996 I don't know if it's still there?

They have a hairdresser and a spa in the Virgin Clubhouse at JFK and Heathrow. I've had a haircut there.

fortifiedwithtea · 20/11/2023 01:54

You can get a manicure, pedicure or head massage at Amsterdam. Can’t remember whether there was a hairdresser.

I wouldn't want to get my hair cut in the airport but a blow dry would be good!

Oblomov23 · 20/11/2023 04:34

I've never seen a salon at Gatwick. Is there one? I've only ever seen one woman at the duty free section, small counter, showing a woman how to put on one eyeshadow.

Oh showers and dressing rooms sound like heaven right now!!

Try Singapore, they have a swimming pool.

Actually I can't think of what Singapore doesn't have.

stayathomer · 20/11/2023 05:44

Dh was saying this the other day- hairdressers and showers! He got back from the worlds toughest trip (not really but stormy, delays etc etc) and still had three hours to travel to get home and he said if they’d had showers there he would have cried with happiness!!!

It could be something to do with scissors.

I don't see that being an issue as long as the staff aren't then taking them on the plane!

Do you think what knives are banned in the kitchens if restaurants at airports?

I was about to mention this but they’ve now closed!

Ah glad it's still there! Used to get a mini pedi before flying off on family holidays. It only took a day or two for something to land on my foot & ruin the nail varnish, but I enjoyed the pampering & looking well groomed for a change. DSs used to love the haircuts too.

cheapskatemum · 20/11/2023 07:16

Oops, cross-posted! I thought I remembered reading that Virgin Atlantic were stopping this.

StarlightLady · 20/11/2023 07:35

Singapore airport has a hairdressers and beauty salon. I’ve had a full Hollywood Wax done there too 😀.

Singapore is truly the king of airports. Swimming pool, butterfly garden, airside hotels, free cinema, and if you've got a long layover and time to clear immigration there is Jewel...

Lots of airports have showers, mostly in the business class / first lounges.

RockingAmadeus · 20/11/2023 11:29

Dubai Airport used to have a hairdressers in the Emirates Lounge, not sure if it’s still there. I had a wash and blow dry between flights.

SM4713 · 20/11/2023 11:41

I had a massage at Honk Kong airport about 15yrs ago. They had a hair washing station and some hair salon seats inside the shop also. I was jet lagged and confused by the exchange rate and gave them the equivalent of about £30 tip, which I realised afterwards was more than the actual massage! 😯

Sydney airport had a beauty station with lots of free samples to help yourself to. Not part of a shop. I think there was a hairdryer you could use also.

I'm sure Taipei and Bangkok have beauty/massage shops with at least a wash/blow dry available. 🤔

trampoline123 · 20/11/2023 11:44

I always think this! The perfect time for a pamper to waste time

commonground · 20/11/2023 11:51

I think that is a great idea, OP. If the shops are there to get their names known, something like the Crop Shop (is it still going?) would be a great stop off. I would deffo use it. I like the idea of filling time efficiently and that would be a job ticked off.

(As an aside, when I was travelling on my gap yah, there were some enterprising and talented travellers who would offer haircuts in the hostels - really popular. I now advise any young person travelling to take a crash course in basic hairdressing before embarking on their adventures - easy beer money to be made.)

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 20/11/2023 12:44

Is this for people waiting for a change-over on a long haul flight ?

I arrive at the airport with enough time to drop my suitcase, walk through security and buy a meal deal for the plane . If the queue in security is short, I may have a drink in Wetherspoons.

I guess if you have been on one 8 hour flight and have a four hour wait for another one, the extra facilities would be nice .

allfurcoatnoknickers · 20/11/2023 14:39

@Finallybreathe Oh Nooooo! This also made me realize I haven't been in the lounge since 2019. Covid killed my Delta Platinum status and with 2 kids, I haven't managed to get it back yet :(

DH and I also used to love the arrivals lounge at Heathrow for a nice shower and breakfast before heading on to our hotel or my parents house.

That is such a shame! I was last in the Clubhouse lounge in February and they now have Peloton bikes in its place!
