Going to Rome in December

I’m looking to book a trip for myself and DM to Rome. Due to various factors (other plans, annual leave and trying to avoid an Italian heat wave!) I’ve been looking at December 2024.

has anyone been in December and can recommend it? I have been to rome
before but about 12 years ago and I can barely remember it apart from
it being very, very warm!

Thanks!

Went end of Nov, sunny and like a cool uk summer day in the day, cold at night. Not uncomfortable I wore a leather jacket.

Following op because I'm looking at going then also. I wonder if it will be insanely busy though?

We went mid-Dec to Rome. It was lovely!
Was warm enough to stroll around the tourist sites in the day, wearing Jeans and a T-shirt. In the evenings an extra layer over the top was fine.

It was as nice to be able to see all the sights without being in a crowd (although the Vatican was an exception to this!). The Trevi fountain was not jam packed and we were able to sit and eat ice cream overlooking it.

What was special was the Christmas lights in the evening, the opportunity to do some gift shopping and coming back with a suitcase stuffed with Italian luxury treats for Christmas!

,

We went mid December 3 years ago.
A jumper with light jacket was enough, around 16 degrees, beautiful sunshine and blue skies. Colder of an evening though.
