How to run a promotional prize giveaway on Facebook

🎄🎄🎄Xmassy post alert ⭐️⭐️⭐️

Hi all. I run my own small business and work with a local bistro / deli who have kindly agreed to give me a beautiful and generous Xmas hamper to use in a promotional Facebook post. (Promoting my business and theirs). I have just started a Facebook page for my business and am keen to drum up some awareness of my services.

I’m happy about creating the content etc… I just don’t know how this works in practice on my business FB page.

I would like to ask people to do something (like the post, share my page, tag a friend … maybe some combination of these things). What I have found though is that sometimes I can’t see the names of people that have shared my posts (probably due to their own privacy settings).

Should I ask them to share the post and tag a friend in the comments, then I can just enter all of the names of commenters into a (digital) hat?

Also are there ways of automating the selection of the winner . I have seen a spinning wheel on other pages … where it lands on a winner’s name. No idea how to find or use something like that.

If anyone has any tips that would be great!!

Thanks 😊

I used to do similar for mine until I found out that Facebook actually bans asking people to like/share to enter. The algorithm doesn’t always pick up on it, but mine got removed a few times and they threatened to ban my page completely. And by that point I had over 5k people following my page so didn’t seem worth the risk

If you have an instagram account, you can put a post suggesting people head over to instagram to enter as you are allowed to ask people to like/share/comment on there to enter. And Facebook won’t pull you up for sending people to another platform

if you search for Facebook competition rules it will give you more info

Read up on the Super Lucky Me website to make sure you’re compliant. Asking for a ‘share’ is against fb T&C

Ah thanks @SaltPepperPotato i will check that out. Don’t want to break any rules! I assumed it was okay as see it all the time! (Like and share)

Thanks @Nuca , I’m really glad I asked . I don’t have another platform, I have trouble keeping up with Facebook to be honest! From the last paragraph of the screenshot it looks like people can share because they want to… but not because I’ve asked them to. That makes sense… I’m just wondering if there’s anything I can do within Facebook to actually get people to enter the competition? Otherwise, there is no competition!

I’m not sure if my last post made sense… I’m just not clear on her people would actually enter, if I don’t use another SM platform.

I think people probably will share it off their own backs to be honest, because it’s such a lovely prize.

Just found this … could this mean that the rules have changed and asking people to like/share/comment as a means of entering IS allowed now ?!

if you run one please make sure your T & C's are clear, such as if it's worldwide or UK entries & whether you intend to ship the prize cost free, or it's collection only
