Thread 11 - TalkLair: “The candle flame gutters. Its little pool of light trembles.”

Whoops, missed the filling up of the previous thread! (thread 10).

Although the nights are gradually drawing in, the new lair of JTT escapees is all cosy and homey inside. The hearth is glowing, the walls covered in dubious artwork, books by non-approved authors line the shelves, rugs are down on the floors (and assorted pets curled up on them).

We just won’t mention the gnawed bones of our prey over there in the corner of the cave…

Hooray for Rosie and nice nurses and paramedics, and many many boos for the other sort. It makes such a difference.

I can see white stuff on the hill behind my house - it was probably there when I realised at 5.45 that I had forgotten to put the bin out last night, and had to head out in my garden clogs with my woolly poncho over my pyjamas.

brrrrrrrrr

Glad I did, they emptied it at 6.30 and it seemed to be fairly full, not sure why (recycling bin, not regular waste). Back into my warm bed then, the teasmade had made tea, I had a cat to snuggle beside and a podcast to listen to, so all good.

VictorianBigot · 09/01/2024 10:04

Brrrr indeed. I’ve just microwaved Kasper’s bowl so he doesn’t get a cold nose while eating his breakfast.

You don't get service like that just anywhere.

I'm an evil cat slave and gave them their food in cold, cold bowls. Currently eating mango sorbet - someone asked if it was homemade. Homemade by waitrose!

Waiting on a woman plumber and then off for a blood test. I was going to include a note and will outline all her loveliness!

SinnerBoy · 09/01/2024 12:21

MouseMinge

I have to back there tomorrow for a blood test to see if I can now have the chemo jar. Is it okay to bring in some chocolates for Rosie?

As long as you say, loudly and authoritatively, "But Cruella over there isn't to have any, OK."

LOL. The FIL or her DH? Grin

Is it this one?

Let him caress the curve of your bum when on top and lean forward so he can kiss your neck and breasts. Let him have a good fondle too or maybe lean forward and out your breasts in his mouth.

🤔

As others have said, chocolate is a perfectly acceptable gift, and a card, or even an email including the ward manager in it, expressing your thanks, will then be able to be included in Rosie's revalidation evidence, this is a really valuable thing for nurses and other healthcare professionals to have.

I'd also consider whether or not to pass on to the ward manager that a member of staff made you feel uncomfortable, with their words and attitude, as nursing is after all a reflective practice and we don't get better at doing our jobs if everyone just pretends everything is fine and dandy. It doesn't have to be a formal complaint which could get someone into trouble when they were maybe just having a bad day but a casual remark made in passing.

Best gift I ever got from a patient was an expensive bottle of Talisker Whiskey. I had to go to my manager and ask if I could keep it, she said it was against the rules but if it was hidden in my bag and she never saw it, then there was nothing she could do about it.

MouseMinge · 09/01/2024 21:39

I like your manager's style, @Dotellhimpike !

I put a postcard in an envelope with everything she'd done and how much it meant to me. I would complain about the other woman but I didn't know or catch her name. When I was telling another nurse about it today, she was pretty horrified at the attitude. Oh and a box of double chocolate (a mix of dark and milk in each chocolate) Lindt. I hadn't intended to be fancy but I dropped in on Waitrose and they anything on the cheaper side wasn't actually cheaper because they only had huge tins. Also, Lindt are bloody lush!

I was Mouse two-hospitals today. I went to put a couple of appointment letters on the fridge that I've had by my bed for a few days. I was convinced they were for the 13th and the 18th. The one I thought was the 13th was this afternoon. Eek! So bloods at Worthing and a CT scan up the road in Shoreham. I like CT scans. I find them quite relaxing. I like staying still with my arms above my head, I like having to hold my breath a few times throughout and then "breathing normally". I find that I end up doing really good breathing. I come out feeling like I've done a few minutes of yoga breathwork.

I walked to the hospital and according to my watch I did over 4,600 steps today. I'm not really sure how that happened but it was good. Snoop picked me up from Worthing to go back to hers before going to the Shoreham hospital because that's where she lives! I got to spend time with my greyhound nephew Seamus who was delighted to see me. Given how few fucks he gives about anything including people him being delighted to see me is always a boost. Snoop had an amazing juice, apple, lemon and ginger. I wasn't sure until I tasted it and then it was "Zing!" best juice I've had. Probably. Well second best. The homemade juice I get to have from time to time in a Village in Oxfordshire from a family who have multiple different apples in their orchard and use all of them to make something that I can only describe as devine.

Oh and after a very long time my hot water is fixed! It's a bloody joy! The reason it took so long is because I wasn't overly bothered until recently. I'd boil a kettle for washing up, didn't care about baths because the shower was nice and hot. No more boiling kettles to wash up!

Britinme · 09/01/2024 23:04

@MouseMinge poorly you has walked a great deal further today than healthy me tends to walk in a day. Kudos to you!

And apple, lemon and ginger is lush.

artant · 10/01/2024 13:35

I spend far too much time just sitting at the moment. When I was working and commuting in public transport it was impossible to get through the day on under about 12K steps, now if I walk half that I’m impressed with myself. I really must get out more!

Apple, lemon and ginger sounds zingy!

MouseMinge · 10/01/2024 16:27

I've done just over 5k today and it was lovely walking by the sea with bright blue skies and the fresh cold air. But.

Snoop came rushing around to me this morning after she called me in response to a message to, well, ask her to call. I picked up a voicemail last night from a vet asking me to call them which was odd. I called them this morning. My darling boy, Django had been taken in, already dead. He was hit by a car. I saw him yesterday at about 1.30pm. He didn't come rushing to see me when I got home yesterday evening but I wasn't particularly bothered and didn't come running in when I called him for dinner, but he's a boy who likes to galavant. Unfortunately I had no idea his fearlessness had taken him out onto the roads. There is so much garden upon garden space out the back. I'm devastated. I adored that boy and he was only 18 months old. Francis seems unbothered although he is being clingy. Just about every night he'd come to bed and eventually get next to Francis and put a paw around him. I'm hugely grateful to whoever took him to the vet surgery because without him Django would just be missing and I'd never have known what happened. So, I've been and am doing a lot of crying, hence Snoop taking me a walk with her and Seamus. It sounds mad but I often used to imagine how he'd change as he got older and all the years we'd have. He was a very special boy and, to be brutally honest, in the midst of all this fucking cancer shit, losing him just seems like too much.

RIP my beautiful boy.
