Tradesman and deposit

Hi all, can I just talk this through here as I'm worried. I'm having my conservatory upgraded, new PVC glass and a new solid roof being out on.

Glazer has been out, done a site visit, measured up etc. He issued me with a contract, asked for deposit ( 5k) has placed the order. But....it's all gone a bit vague and weird. My senses have picked up on something. I keep asking him for an installation date and he's ignoring me or drip feeding info to me. Apparently the glass is ready but he still hasn't got a date for the roof.

We've used him before for windows and he's a local firm, I see his Vans all over town. I guess I feel weird coz I've handed over the money. What do you all think? I'm worried I've been stitched up and if I have, what can I do? I've got a bad feeling.

I had similar OP and it turned out ok in the end but I was so worried. I paid a deposit over and didn't hear from the tradesman for months!! Confused He then rang me one morning and said he was coming over to start the job! I don't think some of them understand how worrying it can be to hand over so much money and then have them go quiet on you or not reply to calls or messages. If you've seen the van around town and they are wellknown in the area and you've used them before, chances are it'll work out ok.

I understand OP it's a horrible feeling, I felt sick aswell. I think if they are known in the area and did a job for you before then it should be ok. Do you have a local area Facebook group that you can search in and see if other people have used the company recently? Might help reassure you a bit.
