Who should get the bed?

I live in a one bedroom flat (alone). I have a sofabed in the living room.

I am going on a family trip with my sister and my parents. The flight leaves at 8am from an airport near my flat. I originally said to my sister that she can stay the night with me before. I had assumed my parents would book a hotel.

They've left it too late to book a reasonable hotel. Anything nearby is over £300 a night as it's a Saturday night

My parents are both retired, late 50s. I work super long hours, as does my sister.

Who should get the real bed? My parents, or my sister and I?

I think it would be easier for a couple to share a sofa bed, so on that basis you should stay in your own bed.

surely if you are all close enough and on good terms to go on holiday with then it doesn’t matter unless the sofa bed is shit ?

shivawn · 19/11/2023 10:25

Does it really matter? Assuming your sofa bed isn't awful then I wouldn't care where I slept for one night.

I'm late 50s and unfortunately not retired.... I'd expect and be happy with the sofa bed.

Means you don't need to change your bed when you get back from hols too.

You should get the bed.
I’m 66, my dd never gives me her bed and I wouldn’t expect it.

You share with your sister in your bed and parents on sofa bed as they didn’t organise accommodation

Agree that a sofa bed, which is generally smaller than a proper bed, is more appropriate for a couple to share. Plus, I'm also in my late 50s and perfectly capable of slumming it still, the same as anyone (in case you think your parents are too old for a sofa bed). The last time I stayed at my dd's flat, my dh and I shared a blow up bed. It wasnt comfortable but I wouldnt dream of kicking my dd out of her own bed.
