Help- what can it be if not bites?

For the last few weeks I've been getting itchy lumps on my ankles. I thought bites, but can't find any evidence of anything that can be biting me.

Have tried everything - looked for any signs of bed bugs (am an expert after an infestation in rented flat years ago, so know what am hunting for), bought a heat trap to check for fleas, been wearing my jeans tucked into socks and slipper boots at all times, but still got a couple more today. It's driving me mad, and my husband can't bear to hear me moaning about it any longer!

What on earth can it be???

Fleas in carpets?

Artesia · 18/11/2023 22:37

Thanks- I thought that, but the heat traps haven't found anything, and I'm
the only one getting them, despite the kids padding round semi-dressed all the time while I'm fully covered up and tucked in, so seems really unlikely?

Carpet beetles? They don’t bite, but their larvae are covered in spiky hairs that leave a nasty itchy bumpy welt that looks / feels like a bite.

Allergy? Is it on the soft part of your ankles?

TheIsleOfTheLost · 18/11/2023 22:47

Allergy. Have you changed your shoes, shower gel, laundry powder etc lately? Your socks are tighter than most other clothing touch points, so might be delivering and keeping an allergen there. Have you seen a gp?

Check down the toilet for fleas. That was the only place I ever spotted them in our old infested rented house.

Do you regularly walk outside in grass? Could be nettles or another plant stinging you?

Namenotavailableagain · 18/11/2023 22:51

Ankles will be fleas as everyone else has said. It's very unlikely to be anything else.

Try spraying your carpets with Indorex. We never saw any fleas, and only a few of us were ever bitten, but spraying with Indorex stopped the bites.
