I've got a problem with my nose. It keeps getting infected (yellow crusting, sores, ulcers), after using nasal steroid sprays for sinus problems and polyps.
I saw the GP a month ago, but she couldn't see much and didn't notice crusting, so just referred me to ENT.
I've not used nasal sprays since, even though I'm becoming more and more blocked up (leading to coughing and asthma getting worse at night due to post-nasal drip).
The infection on one side hasn't cleared though. This week I've had boils in and under my nostril and the tip and septum have been agony.
I've tried to chat to my GP about it, but they don't consider it an emergency.
I was using warm salt water to clean it, but the boils turned up after I'd done this for a couple of days.
The boils have now gone, except there is an exquisitely painful sore patch, just inside and at the top of my nostril. Without pulling my top of my nostril inside out, there is no way to see what is there, however there is yellow crusting.
Due to the pain (which is making the tip and septum so very painful), I put a cotton bud in TCP and dabbed it on there. It stung like hell, but then felt a bit better. I'm now worried though as all I can smell is TCP. I know this is the sa me as using it everywhere, as the smell is so pervasive, but it warns against swallowing it, and although there was a tiny bit on a cotton bud, I'm still worried as everything now tastes of it too.
When I was young I used to suck cotton wool with TCP on (strange child), so logic tells me it's OK and you can use it in your mouth.
I don't want to try Savlon/Germolene, as the area is very wet, so they wouldn't 'stick' and TCP dries so I'm less likely to accidentally swallow it. I also love TCP as it seems to work on everything else, but now I'm worried about breathing in the 'fumes'.
