Obviously you can't see my face (which to be honest would be traumatic for everyone witnessing it, but I've recently gone light after being dark all my life ...

Opinions?

I like brunette, but not crazy about the coppery highlights. The blond is also nice.

@filthypride I feel your pain! I let my greys grow out for six months around lockdown. I was quite sad to discover I didn't have as much white as I'd believed from the root growth and demarcation line when I only saw a month or two's growth between dye. As it wasn't as striking as I wanted, I went back to a lighter brunette semi perm and I can stretch it for up to 12 weeks thanks to those root cover powders you can get.

Probably another year and I'll do the same experiment and see if I have a better mix of white. Then I shall embrace it.

@Catsmere I'll be following your approach when I do! Can't bear the thought of growing it out, my hair I grows quickly but it's long.

Catsmere · 18/11/2023 09:46

@BeenRoundThatBlock my hair is downright stupid in its greying pattern - I have a horizontal strip at the back that just won't go grey. So I have this weird combination. Must be a family thing, my sister's hair has the same strange arrangement. I blame our father - Mum's hair is lovely even white all over!

BeenRoundThatBlock · 18/11/2023 11:26

@Catsmere my mum's is pure silver except a strip that stayed dark at the back for years and years and only went greyer a few years ago - she's 80!

@BeenRoundThatBlock sounds like us - I'm 60 and my sister's 70!

(Hello cousins? 😄)

I’m in exactly the same position, a brunette going grey 😫

I decided to have some highlights to even it out. The front of my hair has more grey than the back. I loved my natural hair colour, but I did find that as my skin tone changed the usual box dye was starting to wash me out. I put a bit of lippy on and some blusher. Still find it strange when I see my reflection in something when we’re out, I don’t recognise myself, it’s weird.

filthypride · 18/11/2023 21:40

I had over an inch and a half of grey in 4 weeks of not dyeing it. Usually I would dye it 3 weekly but I knew I was going to change the colour. It was headbands and root spray in the meantime :-)

That’s really fast growth, OP! I’m slightly envious.

Worriedkittycat · 18/11/2023 22:04

I like the blonde the most. It's a gorgeous colour.

HollyJollyRobin · 18/11/2023 22:30

It looks fab!! 👌

EveryOtherNameTaken · 18/11/2023 22:54

Blonde by a country mile! Really gorgeous shade and will take years off you as the grey comes in, I’m talking from experience 🤣

@Catsmere ... it's a blessing and a curse!!!!

Especially with hairdressers’ prices!!

Bharty · 18/11/2023 23:05

Can't tell without seeing your eyes and skin tone; what a silly post.

Don’t be so daft and rude! Honestly is your life so joyless and miserable that you have to resort to late night digs at strangers on a parenting forum?

May you be cursed with hair like a birds nest for being such a fun sponge.

filthypride · 18/11/2023 23:27

@Bharty

I'm sorry you felt the need and desire to comment simply to tell me my post was silly. I hope tomorrow is better for you.

@Catsmere

Yes ma'am. I've always opted just for castings on the roots from Savers (about £2-£3 cheaper than supermarkets) for my roots... but the blonding was (thank goodness) a very late late birthday present :-)

@filthypride That's a relief!

I always got mine done at a hairdresser. I got mate's rates - student price, really - about $50 a time iirc for the monthly touch-up of the roots and tidying the ends. These days it's $40 just for a dry trim, at the salon I use now (I'm in a different city). At least I don't have to go so often - every five or six weeks instead of every four.

ETA and the Fudge Clean Blonde shampoo is pricey -$26 per tube - but it lasts for months.

noooooooo · 18/11/2023 23:55

I like the lighter shade a lot, it’s very clean blonde. It’d be easier to tell what suits you if we could see your face. You’ll need to change your makeup. Having also been very dark, as dark as caucasian hair can be, and then a blonde, it looked great at first, like properly stunning, and over the course of about four years, not so great. Started creamy and ended up verging on brassy. Maintenance and not over-doing it on the bleach, needs a lot of work on keeping it in good condition. Washing it with cold water, olaplex, blah blah. Do think blonde lifts almost people.

filthypride · 19/11/2023 17:33

@noooooooo

I'm hoping that because I was mostly grey under the dark maintenance shouldn't be too bad (fingers crossed) but I don't really know as it's all new to me.

Thank you for liking the colour. I was told I looked a lot younger with it lighter, which is always nice to hear.
