What the hell is this in my soup?

I have had home made chicken and veg soup for dinner today at work
Dipping into my special flask thing and I bite onto this!
Teaspoon to size - no banana

It is metal ( lucky it didn't damage my teeth). Soup was made in my instant pot using the pressure cooker lid. All veg was fresh except the green beans which were frozen.

Any ideas?

What the hell is this in my soup?

How are we supposed to know what it is? Find something more worthwhile to worry about.

Grimchmas · 16/11/2023 12:36

Eek I'm glad you didn't swallow it!

Possibly part of a ring used to keep climbing green beans tethered to their... thing they climb on?

Or something that got stuck in a poor chicken and wasn't noticed in processing

Bit of the pressure cooker or the flask?

Oh shhh. Looks like a toenail clipping OP!

AlwaysGinPlease · 16/11/2023 15:11

🤦🏻‍♀️ ignore, just saw it's metal 😊

JustWhatWeDontNeed · 16/11/2023 15:12

If it's not from the pot then it must be from the beans.

Literally why are you on MN?

purplecorkheart · 16/11/2023 15:14

Possibly something that the veg grew around when growing that you did not see when cooking.

Something of the pot. I would certainly check before using the pressure cooker function.

Part of the machine that was involved in the processing of the beans. I assume you just tipped them out of the bag.

SisterMichaelsHabit · 16/11/2023 15:14

It looks like a broken sleeper hoop earring. Is there a hallmark on it? It could have come from one of the veg packers if it's not yours. Most food hygiene regs say you can wear one pair of stud earrings while working with food to avoid physical contamination (earrings falling into food) but people very frequently flout this.

Don't you have something more worthwhile to do than being a twat to strangers on the internet for no reason?

Looks like a bit of an earring to me. Maybe bin the rest of the soup just in case the other half is still in there!

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 16/11/2023 15:19

It looks like a broken ear/nose ring.
Possible got into the green bean factory?

You were unnecessarily rude.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 16/11/2023 16:17

I am home now

Checked the pressure cooker lid and nothing it could be
I don't have pierced ears so not mine ( only DH and I here and he doesn't have his done either)
Could be in the green beans ( they were M&S!)

I am going to have to bin the many portions I have in the freezer? it's a shame as it was lovely soup and I don't like wasting food ( hence the soup)

Think you've misunderstood how Mumsnet works.

Ok I’m sorry. 😀

Roussette · 16/11/2023 17:11

I had a one inch nut and bolt in a sealed packet of prawns. I took a photo to show it was sealed. I was cooking a tomato and prawn sauce for pasta, and I spotted it before I added the prawns to the sauce.

I took it all back to Morrisons and asked they open an investigation. I didn't care about compensation, it was the fact it was dangerous. They gave me £5 petrol money (I don't live close to the supermarket) and replacement prawns (didn't want them). The investigation went on months and at the end they said they had checked the machinery and they insinuated it was me that put it in there!

Bear in mind, this was probably my first complaint ever to a supermarket, I don't look at Morrisons in the same way anymore. Bad customer service.

Wibble128 · 16/11/2023 17:19

Remains of the lost nose ring from the farm worker.

longtompot · 16/11/2023 17:29

It looks like it could be part of a split ring around a bolt or screw, maybe off the lid handle.
I wouldn't bin the rest of the soup, just make a note to check it when you've heated it up. If it's a smooth one you could pass it through a colander or sieve.
