Depositing cheque without a date?

Someone gave my DC a cheque for their birthday. I tried to pay it into the bank but they refused it. I didn’t pick up in the lack of date.

I can’t go back to the person who wrote it, as they live miles away.

Anything I can do? My DH says it’s illegal to put the date in as it’s not their handwriting .

How unique is their handwriting?
I'd be tempted to find the same type of pen and then just put the briefest date possible etc 7.7.23
Could you contact the person and ask for their permission to do this?

I don't suppose you could pay the cheque in via one of the banking apps - they seem to be slightly less careful at checking details like that.

I can pay it by the app.

I would have thought you could add the date.

I have disabilities and my parents or a friend would write out my cheque and I'd just sign.

saltnpepper2000 · 16/11/2023 12:21

I would just write it on.

Just write it in, I work somewhere that used to be paid by cheque for our services (loads of cheques quite small amounts) I was always adding dates & never had a problem

Id write the date on, I paid in a cheque using the app without realising there wasn't a date, then I couldn't do anything with it.

Oh I meant forge the date and then pay it in by app, not without the date at all. I know they are more careful than that Grin

@Seeline I worded my post badly (as usual Blush) but yes I agree with you. The app is more astute than me Grin

DH used to be a milkman. A lot of his customers were elderly and sometimes forgot to date their cheques.

I always wrote the date using same colour pen and never had any issues.
