I’m looking to buy a second hand eBay couch and found a nice one within budget but the description says they want a bank transfer because of eBay’s selling fees.
dont eBay tell you not to do this incase it’s a scam

Don't do it.

Only pay by PayPal and report the listing for them trying to circumvent eBay's fees.

I can see why, if the cost is quite large, the seller wants to avoid fees as they can be astronomical unless you activate their seller fee offers. However, I'd be cautious using bank transfer. If it's something you would consider yourself, ask them to list on vinted as they keep the sale price and fees are covered by the buyer (you) but the buyer is protected.

Don't do it.
If they don't want to pay to sell on Ebay then there are other options they could've advertised on. They chose to use EBay. Potentially a scam and you're risking not seeing that money again.

Unless you get the sofa first then pay when you have it.

Offer cash on collection only. There is absolutely zero protection for bank transfers, despite what some people may say. A lot of people think because it's done via a bank, that you're protected but that's just not true. Only debit & credit cards & PayPal have protection
