circadian for children

My 10yo was prescribed circadian 2mg today. When I went to pick it up the Pharmacist seemed very disapproving about it and said it wasn’t suitable for under 18’s and there were other options for melatonin. I know other children are on this and assume it’s commonly prescribed by CAHM’s but now worried. Any advice welcome.

Assuming your child’s doctor prescribed the medication, so the pharmacist needs to take up any concerns with them. I’d have told them that frankly! Not very professional to question another professional’s decision with the patient. If you have concerns speak to the doctor again.

Did you go back and query this with the doctor? My 11 was prescribed this yesterday , it does say not for children in the leaflet which I didn't read till this morning 😳.

How is your DC on it? My son is very tierd and emotional this morning.

My son is on that and another one (slenyto) he is ten but has been on it a couple of years, he's had extensive hospital investigations etc ( hydrocephalus/cerebral palsy/asd/adhd) and I absolutely trust the many consultants he's seen. A general rule is that a general one, not a patient specific one.
When they start on it they can feel a bit groggy when they wake up.

It's ok for children if used sparingly and responsibly. Your Dr will have told you to have factored in days off into the sleep schedule.

Not a ringing endorsement but Americans dose their kids up with it every night and it's freely available off the shelf over there.
