TW for child abuse. Can it be right that two of the three killers of 6 young kids a decade ago are already out or getting out of jail?

Obviously Mick Philpott was the 'brains' of the scheme to frame his ex for arson, but his useless wife and their creepy sexual partner went along with the idea of pouring copious amounts of petrol through a letterbox and setting it on fire while their six children were asleep upstairs. A child of six or eight years old would know that was likely to result in death. How can these dismal excuses for humankind be free already?

I don't get why some child killers are treated so lightly. Like Rosdeep Adekoya - she battered her three year old toddler to death, drove and dumped his body like it was rubbish, and pretended he'd been abducted. And the witch was walking free FOUR YEARS later. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/3595664/mikaeel-kular-edinburgh-toddler-killed-mum-rosdeep-adekoya-dumped-suitcase-kirkcaldy/amp/

Why do some child killers get treated so gently when others, e.g. the murderers of little Arthur and little Star, rightly get the book thrown at their evil heads?

I agree with you. Like the killers of Jamie Bulger, set free with a new identity and even after some were convicted again, another new identity and a new life.

Jewelspun · 15/11/2023 20:44

I had no idea that Rosdeep Adekoya had been freed. I remember when the little boy was classed as missing and it doesn't seem all that long ago.

She should have been locked up for life. Not just dow the cruel brutality when she murdered him but also the huge expense and wasting police time in looking for a missing child.

It sickens me to think that you or I could pass her in the street.

BingBunnyBlues · 15/11/2023 21:04

I know @Jewelspun and she battered him to death because he vomited. A toddler being sick who needed his mum's care and got just her violence. Evil.

There were two siblings as well. Their world turned upside down at their brother being murdered and their own mother being responsible.

They have a life sentence of grief and trauma.

BangingOn · 15/11/2023 21:27

I was in hospital with a newborn DS when Mikaeel Kular was reported as missing, I remember watching the rolling news cycle at 2am and crying for that poor little boy. I cannot believe she is free already.

BingBunnyBlues · 15/11/2023 21:43

She's been a free woman for five years already. It's scandalous.

Has Mairead Philpot also been freed?

I completely agree that they should have served their full sentences and still be in jail.

I suggest you educate yourself about sentencing guidelines.

Yes, according to the article she was released on licence in 2020. So she only did 8 years after getting a 17 year sentence.

Gingerkittykat · 15/11/2023 23:03

Wow, 8 years for killing 6 kids is unbelievable even though Mick was the ringleader.

She must have been granted anonymity since I've never seen any articles about her.

She is still fairly young, I hope she doesn't get pregnant again.

Then complain to your MP about sentencing guidelines rather than whinging on here.

x2boys · 15/11/2023 23:10

They were convicted of manslaughter not murder ,I dot disagree they should be still be in prison ,but ,they will.obviously get a lighter sentence because of the conviction.

Startyabastard · 15/11/2023 23:18

I'm amazed and appalled that they are going to be free also and I say that as a relatively liberal person.

The webpage I've linked to shows a rapist that also murdered women that was freed recently. He's been re-incarcerated because he's offended again, the twat.

Ronald Evans, known as the 'Clifton Rapist'

Killer known as 'Clifton rapist' sexually assaults women after release

Convicted killer and rapist Ron Evans is found guilty of sexual assault after leaving prison.

@VeniVidiWeeWee wow. Quite the charmer aren't you.

BebbanburgIsMine · 15/11/2023 23:58

@VeniVidiWeeWee

There's no beed to be nasty to anyone, that remark about "whinging" was totally unnecessary.

Thistlelass · 16/11/2023 00:09

While I know people do not want to hear it, it is the case that some people will have offended in the grip of serious mental illness. This is sometimes the case when a parent kills their child. The 'attention' they receive in a state hospital will be more comprehensive than when in prison
They may be stepped down into a medium secure unit before being eligible for release back into the community.
I am not suggesting this to be the only reason, just one, and yes it cimes with risk.

If you want to complain about the way the justice system works in a democracy I suggest you understand how it works before posting an ill informed thread on a public forum.

Notatallanamechange · 16/11/2023 00:47

It’s mumsnet, it’s fucking opinions and sounding off. Why the hell do you want someone to ‘educate’ themselves on sentencing guidelines to be angry? I’m understand the guidelines and I’m angry. I’ve written to my MP and I’m angry. That doesn’t mean someone else has less right to be pissed and vent. So please do fuck off with your attitude.

Absolutely no need to be so rude to posters using this forum for the purpose it was intended. Take your bile elsewhere.

x2boys · 16/11/2023 01:16

I don't think anybody wouldn't think Mick phillpott, was ,nt an absolute twat
But he was also very stupid and controlling
He thought his stupid plan would work.and he would emerge a hero
Sadly six children died because of his stupidity ,his co defendants were also not very bright and went along with it .

Mitherinmolecules · 16/11/2023 01:28

It's sickening . Absolute evil scum should still be in prison. I also had no idea that wee boy Mikhael's mother was out (what a vile excuse for a mother!).

Northernsouloldies · 16/11/2023 05:49

All the case's highlighted are abhorrent but what about similar cases that didn't get the media spotlight?. Retrospective sentences once a sentence has been completed is a slippery path to viglanteism as in make enough noise and have sentences extended to suit the public mood.

embersglow · 16/11/2023 06:16

It's terrible I agree. I hadn't heard of the toddler case. Four years? Shock

OP probably does understand how it works. I think you've missed the point.
