Soup makers - Worth it?

In the winter months I love having a hot soup for dinner. I usually just throw a load of veg and a stock cube in a pot and blitz it.

Tell me why love your soup maker so I can justify another gadget!

I have recently got a ninja soup maker and I love it! It makes soup so easy (I know it’s easy anyway, but you know what I mean!) it also makes sauces and other things

Bluelightbaby · 15/11/2023 16:17

I have one and love it ! Use it most weeks :) so so easy :)

Easy and blends smooth soups more smoothly than my blender.

Didn't want one, didn't think I needed one and harrumphed when husband bought it ... wouldn't be without it now!

RailwayAnna · 15/11/2023 16:23

No. I like my pan and stick blender approach.

What's the advantage over using a pot in the hob?

No. I like my pan and stick blender approach.

This is what I do currently. Why don’t you like your soup maker?

I’d love if it was ready when I get home from work rather than having to make it myself.

Seems totally pointless to me. And soup tastes nicer when you fry onions/garlic/veg first. it's so quick to make-just make a big batch and freeze.

Absolutely this.

I love it because we prepare, pop in and leave

NHSmummy84 · 15/11/2023 16:30

I have the Morphy Richard's Sauté and soup so it fries onions etc first. I wouldn't have made soup if I didn't have one! It's really easy and it's less faff as I don't have to watch a pot on the hob. It makes smooth soup in 21 minutes. It's my most used kitchen gadget.

That's what I said and why I didn't want one. I regularly eat my words now, along with a bowl of delicious soup maker soup.😂

MythagoW · 15/11/2023 16:33

I love mine. The difference with a pan is you can put all the ingredients in at whatever time suits you then press go and leave it unattended and in half an hour you have soup. So if you chop fast it can be five mins in the kitchen. It also creates leas humidity, less to clean and uses less electricity. I also put dried pulses in mine to soak overnight, then turn on in the morning and have super cheap healthy protein ready to add to lunch. And I make soy milk for pennies by doing that with dried soy beans and using the blend option then pouring it out through a sieve. I would rather lose my oven than my soup machine! I do agree that saute first makes a nicer soup but you can get soup machines that do that, at some point i will upgrade!

thorneyislanddoris · 15/11/2023 16:38

Waste of time. Most of the recipes want you to cook stuff first. So if you've already got it in a pan what's the point of then moving it to the soup maker? You might as well keep it in the pan and use a stick blender.

AngelsWithSilverWings · 15/11/2023 16:39

I use a pan and stick blender usually but this week I was busy and didn't have time to watch it simmer so used the instant pot instead. Saying that , everyone I know who owns a soup maker loves it.

AnneShirleysNewDress · 15/11/2023 16:41

I love mine and use it all the time. I have a Morphy Richards one.

RailwayAnna · 15/11/2023 16:41

I didn’t like it because I don’t just put my ingredients in and go. I like the experience of slowly sautéing my onions, adding balsamic until it turns sticky, adding more ingredients, tasting and tweaking the flavours.

PictureOfFlorianTray · 15/11/2023 16:42

This.

I do that too, no two soups are alike. I fear that if I can’t tweak during cooking I may end up with bland soup.

I love my soup maker so much!! I have a bit of a habit of buying kitchen gadgets that don't get used (bread maker, spiraliser, rice cooker to name but a few) and DH definitely rolled his eyes when I brought home a soup maker. But this time of year I use it all the time. I like the fact I can chuck stuff in and walk away, I don't have to watch, stir, wait, turn down heat when bubbling over etc. mine takes 19 mins - I chop stuff, plonk it in and go do something else, then 19 mins later I have a tasty soup! I also make sauces in it.

I guess the main advantage is not having to watch it, and it doesn't matter if you forget you are making it, house won't burn down. I'm suffering greatly with brain fog at the moment and these things are priceless for me 😁

I had carrot and coriander soup today 😀

LoreleiG · 15/11/2023 16:47

I like making soup myself. To be it just seems pointless when it’s not hard anyway. Also agree ref sautéing the onions!

DiscoBeat · 15/11/2023 16:49

I just use a saucepan and stick blender. It's so easy, I can't imagine it needing to be easier.

skyeisthelimit · 15/11/2023 16:50

I have a Morphy Richards Soup Maker and it is the best invention ever, you literally chop and chuck in and leave it for 21 minutes. That's it, no watching, no stirring, just wait for the beep. It makes 4 portions which feeds me and my employee for 2 days, or me for 4 days. (I freeze portions sometimes rather than waste them).

I use mine every week twice a week. I chuck in leek, potato, onion, along with bouillon, herbs, water and salt and 21 minutes later I have perfectly smooth extremely tasty soup. Another one I do often is the above but with carrot and coriander instead of leek. (I don't like lumpy soups or earthy tasty soups).

I wouldn't make my own soup if I didn't have it, and I always cook everything together, I never fry stuff first. I WFH and this is the quickest way of a fresh , healthy soup as I don't eat much veg.

It never tastes bland thanks to the ingredients

Whataretheodds · 15/11/2023 16:50

Presumably the 'put everything in and leave it unattended' is no different from a slow cooker though?

I don't have space for another gadget. The advantage for me would be avoiding having to stick blend in the pan which can scratch it
