UTI/thrush and useless GP

I had a smear test last Tuesday. The next day I developed UTI symptoms (pain when urinating, general discomfort), so went back to GP on Thursday.

They tested urine and said it has come back negative for UTI, so made me do a swab to send to be tested. Sent me off without any treatment. The swab test results got uploaded over the weekend and it says no to BV but yes to 'presence of yeast' which I assume means thrush?

It is now the following Wednesday and I am still in discomfort and I have still not heard from my GP for any diagnosis or treatment. I am going to call them today to follow up but feeling frustrated.

What sort of treatment should I expect for this? I am prone to thrush but have never experienced UTI pain with it before. Would antibiotics usually be prescribed? I just want to be prepared incase the GP tries to fob me off!

If there's no UTI, they won't prescribe ABs. They are likely to make the thrush worse too.
Go to the chemist and get some canestan - the tablet/cream combo and get started on that.

I have used canesten cream this week but it actually feels like it has made it feel worse, the UTI type pain subsided a bit before I used it and now has got worse again

I've also just remembered! I had a 'health MOT' - blood test and urine test - a few weeks ago as it's a new GP I have just joined so they send new patients for this. My urine test came back as present with leukocytes, but my GP didn't follow up with me and never mentioned it. This was before I got my UTI symptoms.
