2 nights in Bristol coming up soon for DH and I. We are staying in an Airbnb on Gloucester Road.

I don’t know the city at all, so would welcome any suggestions.

looking for good places to eat, drink etc. need a mixed bag really, a few bars for cocktails and also a bit more ‘real pub’ for DH. If there is good music / juke box then even better

thank you!

-Small Bar for lots of fancy beers and Korean chicken.
-Root is a (mainly) vegetarian restaurant in a shipping container on the docks.
-The Old Duke pub has live jazz.
-The Milk Thistle cocktail bar.
-If you fancy a spa- Bristol lido.
-Climb Cabot tower.

Also interested. I am a weird Cornish oddity - never been to Bristol (well apart from a University open day with DS!). I always leapfrog and go straight to London. But think I may be missing something!

Gloucester Road is a very very long road running from the North of the city right into the city centre. Do you know what area that you are staying in (first bit of the postcode might give us an idea) ?

checkedcloth · 15/11/2023 11:18

Thanks all. Not sure of the postcode as an Airbnb but I believe it’s close to St Andrews park?

Highly recommend the Clifton Sausage for dinner. It's basically variations on sausage and mash but I love it. Has a really lovely home feel.

I went to a really good little comedy club in Bristol called Smoke and Mirrors. It is based in a pub near the city centre. You can also order pizzas to eat at the interval. I actually went on my own as I was staying in Bristol for a few nights and found it to be very friendly.

Thanks all for the suggestions, really helpful. Really looking forward to it!

Caper and cure is a really nice restaurant at the lower end of Gloucester Road and Bianchis (500m from it) is also really good.

There's a great South Keralan cafe not far from St Andrews park on Gloucester Rd - Devs. Recommend that!

And if you like beer, the Left Handed Giant bar is great, am sure there must be music of some sort as it's on 3 levels. There's also a micropub on Glos Rd further out, Drapers Arms.

The Christmas market is on at the moment, worth a wander, it's the same stuff as found in every other city but a nice buzzy atmosphere.

Park Street is my fave st in Bristol, there are some really nice shops and bars on there, and there's a Banksy at the bottom of the hill.

If you want high end food and cocktails I cannot recommend Paco on Lower Guinea Street, enough. Never fails to amaze.

If anyone tells you to visit the cat pub, Bag O' Nails, don't bother, it is awful.

We like Beirut mezze, the pubs on king Street, there's a good Japanese bar/restaurant in Clifton plus interesting independent shops

Bristol has so many different areas/ villages. Gloucester Road area has a huge array of indie food places. Park street great, quite arty. Bedminster quite alternative. Wapping Wharf lots of cafes restaurants in shipping containers. M Shed museum. Waterside for big bars. Cabot Circus for high st stores.Clifton is a lovely area to mooch, posh end! Lots of places for coffee, gift shops, pub there called The Brunel and others, Clifton Sausage too (as PP). If you like steak Pasture is good (not Clifton). Enjoy!

gotomomo · 15/11/2023 23:05

Dd and dsd like the cat pub but don't suggest it to me thankfully! Make reservations for dinner if Friday or Saturday it can be tricky
