Want a weekend newspaper but we don’t have any local newsagents

There seem to be a lot of online companies who will send me a newspaper but I am not sure which one to use!

Does anyone have any recommendations please? I miss having a local newsagent!

I don't know anything about on-line, but don't you have any supermarkets or petrol stations near you either ?

NutellaNut · 15/11/2023 07:16

There’s an app called PressReader you can subscribe to with all the newspapers on it. Actually, my local library has a communal subscription to PressReader so you can login online and use it for free. Check if your local library has something similar.

I use PressReader app which I get free access to via my local library.

Are there any local drop off points? My PiL live quite remotely in the Cotswolds, there are no shops in their village, petrol station is about 5 miles away, but WHSmith (I think) drop off pre-ordered newspapers at the village hall for people to pick up.

Yes, but they won’t deliver, unfortunately

Thank you, this is good to know and I will investigate more!

However at the weekend we want a physical newspaper.

Our Post Office delivers newspapers but not on a Sunday unfortunately.

WarningOfGails · 15/11/2023 09:18

we are the same! Up till now we’ve had it delivered from a newsagent 15 miles away (we are the furthest of his round!) but he’s retiring, and has sent us over to Newsteam. That hasn’t started yet so can’t comment on the service but you could check their website to see if they deliver in your area.

Talipesmum · 15/11/2023 20:16

I think we use newsteam. I’ll check with DH cos he organises it.

Talipesmum · 15/11/2023 21:05

Yes- we use newsteam. It works fine. Not without issue - we get a weekly Saturday paper, but they kept not sending us the local paper so we just gave up. Worth a try though - it’s been pretty good for a while. Occasionally it doesn’t show up and we have to phone up and they refund.

We have a daily paper delivered and read it whilst having breakfast. I also look forward to doing the crossword. It costs £1.85.
We also have the town’s weekly paper and costs for the months vary depending on whether it’s a four or five week month, could be £54 to £75.
Usually crosses my mind whether to cancel it due to the cost but at the moment we can afford it and I like to think that we’re supporting the local newsagents.
DH reads the Sunday papers on line.

Oops! Just noticed this is a zombie thread - no idea how it came up on my chat thread!

Bjorkdidit · 11/04/2024 08:59

Probably because there's at least two other threads about newspapers running, which are filled by people who are very obviously pointing out that they are far too young and cool to read a newspaper.
