Any architects -do you think this would be a useful gift for you?

kindle scribe

so like a kindle but as well as being able to read books you can take notes, do sketches on it. Am looking for a present for Dd who has just got a part 1 job and thought it might be useful for site visits? Or would it not get used? Any recommendations for anything else which might be better?

I'm not an architect, but in my experience, it's always best to let hobbyists/professionals pick their own equipment. Even if someone else recommends, it might not suit her/be compatible with her work.

This is true, i probably should ask her….see what she thinks. Thanks.

I was going to say the same thing- architects tend to know exactly what they like and don't for note taking etc so best is to spoil the surprise and just ask :)

I'm an architect and have been eying up a ReMarkable which is similar as a replacement to my iPad mini. https://remarkable.com/?gadsource=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA0syqBhBxEiwAeNx9NyUZIp84GAALgYGp2gNZzTjMEZSsG2jQBj8WhuLnbfVZWFWCmHfSxoCqmQQAvDDBwE
I would ask her though as from experience, I generally end up with notepads and sketch pads as my default system. It depends what sites she's going in and what she's doing.
My iPad got utilised a lot less than anticipated when I received it as a present.
I am definitely not tech phobic as I have a v. Fancy iMac, a drawing tablet and lots of complicated software but still really like paper & pens (admittedly quite expensive pens) and I find I absorb information taken down by hand differently so that helps on site. Also sites are mucky, often wet at this time of year, and I'm not precious about a notebook being dropped, bashed or splattered. I can also wear gloves when writing with a pen, not all digital things work as well (although pen ones are probably better for this)
See what she thinks

I’d Been looking at the Remarkable as well and looking at some reviews from people with both that and the Kindle Scribe and most prefer the Scribe due to the backlight.
