Housework related mystery! Could this be even duller?? Pics included

Just look at what's happening to my towels!

I wash them with my other laundry <<outrages approx 30% of MN>> and this isn't happening to anything other than towels.

Old towels, new towels, different brands, bath towels, hand towels, but same pink. It looks like bleach, but how? What is going on?

Has anyone had anything similar?

Do you use liquid washing detergent? And do you pout it in the drum instead of the drawer?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/11/2023 12:37

Has my dd been round at yours bleaching her hair? 😂

ellyoctober · 13/11/2023 12:38

Could it be fanny bleach?😶

ApolloandDaphne · 13/11/2023 12:39

It very much looks like bleach. Is anyone in your house using skin ointment for acne? My DD's towels were all like that as she had stuff (i cannot recall what it was called) she used. I don't know if she was wiping her hands or her face on them but they were all ruined.

SunnySideDownBriefly · 13/11/2023 12:39

Does anyone use acid-based serums in your house? Or salicylic cleansers? Something like that. I have this all the time and my daughter is the culprit!

DyslexicPoster · 13/11/2023 12:41

Who the F bleaches their fanny? Do they have men with toxic dicks in their life?! @ellyoctober

If its Bathroom bleach, it completely strips out the colour in my towels. There's white patches on my navy towels.

LegoLady95 · 13/11/2023 12:43

Mould sprays etc may have bleach in. Do you spray any areas and leave it to work meaning towels could be in contact?

BrontëParsonage · 13/11/2023 12:47

So sorry to reference another thread, but this is why you need ‘display’ towels! 😅I find that whitening toothpaste can result in bleach-like splodges on my (non-display) towels.

This. All my towels look like this due to teenagers and their skin products.

PuppyMonkey · 13/11/2023 12:52

You’re not using fabric softener are you?

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 13/11/2023 12:54

My dark grey towels look like this as 15yo DS uses (when he remembers, but that’s a different thread) a salycic (so?) acid face wash and spit cream. There’s clearly traces of it when he dries his hands and face on the towel. I thought it was poo marks to start off with but it’s definitely not.

I think we have a winner!

DD uses Acnecide. I assume she's not washing it all off before she dries her face/hands 🤦

That makes so much sense now, as it's just dawned on me that the towels in our ensuite are unaffected, it's just the ones in the main bathroom.

Thank you for solving the mystery @ApolloandDaphne

To answer the other qs - no one dyes their hair in our family, towels are other side of the bathroom from the shower and bath, so no contact with mould/cleaning sprays. I'd be terrified if fanny bleach had such power!

@DyslexicPoster I assumed (perhaps wrongly and because I have a faulty fanny???) that @ellyoctober was talking about the way some fannies bleach underwear?

All my knickers have been ruined by my weird fanny and its remarkable bleaching qualities.

ApolloandDaphne · 13/11/2023 13:22

I'm glad I solved your mystery. It also took us a while to work out what was going on.

SomersetBrie · 13/11/2023 13:25

Problem solved for me as well. I was wondering what those bleachy stains were on my towels (I blamed the cat, poor cat) but acnecide sounds a lot more likely.

ManchesterLu · 13/11/2023 13:49

Definitely acne cream. All my towels and pillowcases were like this when I was a teenager!
