Can you help me find a rug (pic)

I'm trying to make my living room more homely . I think i need a rug. Because the wallpaper looks busy should I be looking for a plain rug? As I have 2 dogs would i be better with a low pile rug rather that a shaggy type or simlar? Also what sort of colours . Budget is under 200 cheaper the better.

I would get a light coloured plain rug and some cream throws for your sofa as it's very dark. Dusk bedding is great for good value and good value knitted throws and you can get some matching cushions.

Definitely not a light one it would be dirty within a week . Mix of kids and dogs on it and dogs coming from the garden especially with the wet weather now.

Don't want throws

Being dark doesn’t make it dirt repellent? You mean you won’t be able to see the dirt? 😳
id go for something brightly coloured., maybe yellow to pick out the yellow on the wallpaper, it’s difficult as it’s such a mismatch of colours with the wallpaper, floor, sofa and curtains,

I agree, pick a colour out from your wallpaper- yellow (light green?) or the light blue.

(I have a rug, dogs and kids... I usually steam mop mine once a week together with the floor!)

Love the wallpaper but it needs a picture/s or shelves to add niknaks

Also a lamp or two for moody lighting

cardibach · 13/11/2023 12:26

Look at Ruggable. Washable rugs - and they really are, they wash and dry easily and look great - so you don’t have to worry about marks. I have them in my hall and kitchen. I have two for the kitchen (just one base as that doesn’t need washing) and can actually get them washed and dried in a day. https://ruggable.com/

Washable Rugs & Washable Area Rugs by Ruggable

The original washable rug is still the best. Ruggable rugs are machine washable and stain resistant. Great for homes with kids and pets. Free shipping!

Yeah I know I Need to add things to make it better . I don't have anywhere to put lamps though plus I would not use them. I definitely need something to break the walls up though.

They aren’t perhaps in budget, but if you can stretch it they are so worth it. Mine aren’t showing and pay stains or wear after 2 years in high traffic, high mess areas.

There may be a sale on soon with black Friday coming up . Or maybe I could save up a bit.

Yes, they do offers from time to time.
I hadn’t properly registered your budget when I made the recommendations, so apologies if I’ve thrown an expensive cat amongst the pigeons!

That's alright. I never knew you could get washable rugs so I might find an alternative or a sale on or save a bit. I have loads I Need to do in the house anyway. So I could do some less expensive bits whilst I save if need be.

I wouldn't go for blue if children and dogs are about, light blue will look dirty really fast.

Dunelm do washable rugs though they take a while to dry.

We used to have the ikea one linked above it was lovely and really thick / luxury for the money

3catsandcounting · 13/11/2023 13:16

I have a huge washable rug from Dunelm, they offer quite a few different colours I think. It just fits in my washer. Previous to that (when I had my elderly dog, who occasionally had accidents on them!!) I had 2 smaller washable rugs from Dunelm, butted them up together and put a coffee table over to hide the seam, and stuck either or both rugs in wash when necessary.
A creamy gold would look nice in your room, and absolutely a lamp or two, or just a floor lamp. You're never going to achieve cosy with overhead lights.

DeadBugMountainClimber · 13/11/2023 13:16

I was going to say that Dunelm do a more affordable version of the ruggable washable rugs. Just get one as large as you can afford, OP. I agree re pictures, favourite photographs and/or a mirror on the walls to add homeliness.

Shithole101 · 13/11/2023 13:26

Thank you for dunelm suggestions. I could take an of cut of the wallpaper I have and take it to the shop there's one not to far from me. That way I could check the colours better.

Oooo I didn’t know that! <toddles off to Dunelm>
I love my washable rugs.
