Temu but not Temu??

On my Facebook feed I regularly see ads for really cool stuff (like nifty storage or gift ideas) and then am bitterly disappointed that it’s from Temu. Is there an alternative to Temu for this stuff, or any way to find out if there is a more ethical version of it? Actually, I know a lot of this stuff is made in China but at least a more reputable supplier than Temu would be great.

Watching with interest OP as I'd like to know too.

And your right the issue with the likes of Temu isn't just with the use of slave labour (as of course this is abhorrent and shouldn't be accepted) but also -

The sheer amount of new lines added daily encouraging mindless buying of plastic tat,

The environmental costs of shipping this creates,

The lack of safety regulations

(Rumoured) dodgy data mining practices

So yes while other high street stores have a lot of work to do on the ethics front it would seem the likes of Temu and Shein are on a mission to set the bar even lower Confused

A lot of the things we buy from the high street/ more "reputable" sellers will be the exact same items sold on Temu or shein. They are just cutting out the middle man hence the prices being lower

Agree

Temu and Shein however make a big problem even bigger (quite literally) due to the sheer volume of new lines added to their website daily. This encourages ridiculous over consumption and their app algorithm compounds it by triggering crazy offers. I mean, you'd be daft not to use them.

Their low prices mean (after the inevitable one time wear) when their get passed to a charity shop they are impossible to sell on as it's cheaper to pop on the app and buy brand new. Cue a shit tonne of landfill waste.

Returns are often too costly to process so hey- hello landfill.

So I think actually they are worse than many other places
