What are you doing, if you can't sleep?

Bemyclementine · 13/11/2023 03:24

Apart from mumsnet?

Apparently 2 hours of very broken sleep is FINE for me to exist on. I've stopped fighting it (3 nights of getting more sbd more annoyed)

In the last hour, I've hung up a load of washing, set another load ready to start at 6am.

Emptied the dishwasher

Made a list of things to do tomorrow (if I don't I'll lay around feeling exhausted)

Cleaned DS football boots

Filled DC water bottles for school.

Fixed an ornament- cat knocked off abd broke, I've glued it back together.

Taken a few stale/old items from pantry, binned and recycled packaging (open breadsticks etc)

Going to attempt a bit of TV but I know I'll probably fall asleep (and wake up minutes later....)

Updated my personal budget spreadsheet, bought a coat, thought about my looming dissertation deadline, checked the weather. I’m awake from 12:30-4:00 daily. Then I get up at 6:00 for work.

Sylver75 · 13/11/2023 03:30

Lying there staring at the ceiling while my partner snores his head off. Also wondering how much longer I can hold in a wee as the cat has decided to sleep on my legs and I daren't disturb him.

I sometimes stick on a podcast and drift off listening to that. I stick to comedy ones, Help I Sexted My Boss is a favourite.

Bemyclementine · 13/11/2023 03:32

How do you cope @EveWinter ? This, for me, is off the back of a dose of covid. I fall asleep then immediately wake up with a gasp I'm exhausted.

I went to bed at 10.30am and was up again at 11.30. I'm getting minutes at aa time.

i often am awake at 3am and can’t get back to sleep, due to pills i’m on, so i watch crap on my ipad or do the ironing, put washing on timer or go on mumsnet.

EveWinter · 13/11/2023 03:50

I’m permanently knackered @Bemyclementine . I work 8:30-6 most days, pick up my dissertation in the evenings. Single parent to a teen. Basically I do things at home while dinner is cooking we eat at 7 and I do uni stuff while my teen does homework.

We have an hour together watching something on TV with a cup of herbal tea at 8:30 and we’re generally in bed before 10.

I usually try to do yoga a couple of evenings a week but I’ve had to knock that on the head atm for writing (plus I’m still not 100% after having covid recently).

I’ll probably stay up for the day now tbh - still 100% wide awake.

Xmasfairy86 · 13/11/2023 03:51

Cat brought a mouse in and now I can’t get back to sleep.

updating Amazon basket with things prior to Black Friday 😆 and scrolling endless internet sites. Nothing actually productive

2strappinglads · 13/11/2023 03:54

Always wake around 3, then lay here till the alarm goes off

Freeasabird76 · 13/11/2023 03:56

Staying in bed in the hopes I'll drop off.Insomniac for 30 years, can manage fine on 4 hrs, although worse now than ever, can be awake the entire night, zombie next day.

Bemyclementine · 13/11/2023 03:57

Oh I really feel for you all. I've been off work with covid. Due back Tuesday but can't see how I'll actually function.

Initially messaging a lovely Mum on here of a 5 year old girl I know from the cancer threads who has a few days left to live and then sent her DD a present and card.

Now trying to sleep. May take anti histamine.

RantyAnty · 13/11/2023 04:02

Listening to a rain on YouTube that hopefully makes me sleepy but I have to wee but don't want to get up but I also won't wee in the bed as I'm not pissed.

Bemyclementine · 13/11/2023 04:05

I'm going to attempt sleep. Im so tired.

Those of you who suffer with insomnia long term, are you just wide awake? I'm fighting sleep because I know ill nod off immediately, then wake up seconds later

Storm outside my window

Kitty not feeling good so worried about her too

TiredMagnolia · 13/11/2023 04:11

I’m lying here pissed off as DH is selfishly “listening” To an American football game. I can’t sleep with the noise so I’m contemplating going to the spare room.

I guess it can be both.

Sometimes my body feels like a live wire that won't shut off.

Right now I feel really exhausted but sorta fighting it plus I know I have to get up and wee

I've got rain sounds on too. I particularly like the rain on a tent or rain on a vehicle along with driving sounds.

GoodnightJude1 · 13/11/2023 04:17

I can’t lay in bed once I’m awake so I’m usually downstairs between 3 & 4am.
I quite like it actually. Just me and the dog! Nobody asking for anything as they’re all fast asleep 😀
I make a cuppa and sit and watch Ambulance and wish I could have been a paramedic.

I can have both. Either I'm absolutely wired with no chance of sleep or I'm so exhausted that my eyes are burning but no matter how many times I try to sleep, nothing happens.

McConkeysPlate · 13/11/2023 04:31

I am up with the dog. Just done the dishwasher and some washing. My head won’t turn off 😩

pippapipps · 13/11/2023 04:33

I've been an insomniac for years I just can't sleep I'm permanently tired
I envy people who say' oh I'm asleep the minute my head touches the pillow 😳

pippapipps · 13/11/2023 04:35

... and at the moment I'm listening to the wind outside and hoping it doesn't bring my garden fence down I just had a look outside the front and it's wild out there

Yes, it's quite nice.
Think I'll pretend I'm in a tent in the rain and my phone is a torch and try to sleep.

That's exactly what I do. I pretend I'm in a tent in a storm and it's super cosy in my sleeping bag. It's very relaxing if I can properly get into it.
