DS loves animals but feels that the books we read at the moment don’t teach him anything new because he has read so much about them already. He spent a lot of time off primary school due to school based anxiety and although he couldn’t face doing any work he did love reading about animals. So he has read a lot and feels that he knows everything there is to know.
He would love to have some recommendations for more advanced books about animals but ones that aren’t too dry. He’s only 11 but has recently discovered he has a reading age of 16. This was a huge surprise to all of us because he doesn’t read much for pleasure and missed so much school and as a result was often behind in his work. He is managing to attend secondary school so far but says he can be bored and lose focus. Anyway one thing he’s said is that he feels sad he can no longer enjoy reading about animals so we are looking for something that take the subject to a deeper level but is still interesting and not too dry.
