Please explain what all the people are doing with the pan lids and cloths on tiktok to clean upholstery?

I keep seeing people using saucepan lids with cloths attached to clean sofas.
Why? What?
I don't understand

I have seen this and wondered if it was some kind of steaming method using a pan lid that's just been on a hot pan with a damp cloth.

Is it because it's a larger surface area than holding a cloth in the normal way so faster and flat so good contact?

I know what you mean - I've seen it and I don't understand. You're just pushing soapy water over upholstery. Shouldn't you rinse it or it will just be all soapy? Doesn't it just push the dirt about? So many questions..

I thought it just removed hairs?

I don't get it at all.

Well at least I'm not alone in feeling baffled and not cleaning my sofa like this!
