All weekend they’ve been going off here. I just want to scream - GIVE IT A BREAK

OP posts:
Haydug · 12/11/2023 20:21

Last night, yes. Haven't heard any tonight.

I mean .. I’m not selfless and consider that it impacts animals, affects livestock and probably not great for newborns and some elderly with how loud they are.

As long as your good though

Yes massive display here last night, remembrance day of all days to have a display!!! they don't bother me but the dog i was sitting for they certainly did.

I think they should be banned now or limits put on the noise levels, they are now well above even a shot gun.

TemporaryCatSlave · 12/11/2023 20:22

Yes, and very loud too. Doesn't help I live virtually next door to a Hindu temple. Cat hates it, has shot off my knee several times and is currently hiding in his play tunnel peering out at me mournfully.

Oakbeam · 12/11/2023 20:26

How can Diwali 'not be a thing' there?

Probably the same reason it’s not a thing here either.

No Hindus.

It does make me laugh that even though Diwali has been mentioned a million and one times on the thread already, you still get another person saying it.

I think we get it’s Diwali everyone.

You ignored every one of them except this one tho. Your replies make you sound pretty unpleasant. There’s really no need to be rude to people responding to the question that you asked.

reesewithoutaspoon · 12/11/2023 20:30

started mid-October, and hasn't stopped yet, though not as frequent. Fortunately, my cats aren't that bothered. One even sits on the window ledge and watches, but it must be a nightmare for people with nervous animals.

TheBunnyLover · 12/11/2023 20:32

Yes. I don't think it is necessarily Diwalli either-It's been every night since the middle of last month. Drives me nuts.

Yet you're complaining about fireworks. A really significant component of Diwali. 😳

kitsuneghost · 12/11/2023 21:01

We have loads. They are lovely to see

greengreengrass25 · 12/11/2023 21:02

How many nights is it going to go on for

It's so noisy

So you get it's not going to give you a break then? Cos you know, Diwali.

Aethelberht · 12/11/2023 21:05

Yep, going off atm. But it is Diwali so possibly to be expected.

Woman2023 · 12/11/2023 21:13

Yes. I hadn't realised it was Diwali, that explains it.

I suppose maybe some were keen for you to acknowledge that tonight's religious festival is a far more legitimate reason for fireworks than last week's commemoration of a foiled terrorist attack.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 12/11/2023 21:52

Yes. But we’ve had fireworks nightly since September - it’s so often you only
notice the nights you don’t hear them.

ThePoshUns · 12/11/2023 22:05

Ahh it's Diwali! I wondered why there were still fireworks this evening

mnahmnah · 12/11/2023 22:11

We had them at 9.30 THIS MORNING. Not had that before

idontlikealdi · 12/11/2023 22:13

Yep, we've actually had more here tonight than we did for fireworks night. It's a slight blessing that ddog is now deaf.

therealcookiemonster · 12/11/2023 22:17

yes! and I am so over it.

editing because I've just realised it's diwali... so that makes sense and have no complaints about that... although I wish as a society we would stop using fireworks because of the environmental ramifications...

Vitriolinsanity · 12/11/2023 22:27

Yes, but I live in a place where many, many are celebrating Diwali. The Gurdwara threw the kitchen sink at it tonight and there are still a few going off.

It'll be done soon.

Why would anyone do that?

There are no top trumps in firework useage.

On Remembrance Day of all days, let’s remember the 2.5m volunteer soldiers in the (then) British Indian army who fought in WW2 - without them history would have taken a very different turn

luxuryinteriors · 12/11/2023 23:36

Is it Diwali? 🤔

Passepartoute · 12/11/2023 23:39

I'm fine with fireworks being let off for Diwali, but I do think the fact that they are still going strong around us after 11.30 pm is taking the piss a bit.

How can Diwali 'not be a thing' there?

It's just not. I've never heard Diwali fireworks here nor seen any celebration of it. We live in a very quiet street on the coast north of Newcastle. All of our neighbours are white and British. I'm not aware of anyone who lives near us who isn't, apart from a Spanish person. 3 DC and their primary school is 98% white British. Diwali just isn't a thing. There are whole swathes of Northumberland like this.
