Table extender for Xmas?

We are hosting Xmas this year but stupidly purchased a non extendable table when we bought our dining table. It’s a round table, 4 seater but we have managed to squish 6 in before. Obviously not going to purchase a new dining table for one day, considered hiring a bigger table? But just now have been googling “table extenders” and see that that is a thing!

Has anyone used a table extender? Preferably one that can fold away and be stored in an apartment….

I couldn’t understand how that would work on a solid table so did a quick Google. They look £££!
Have you thought about looking in charity shops? You could buy one cheaply then re donate after Christmas. Or look for a cheap folding table maybe.

I would get a cheap folding table / garden table and just get a tablecloth which would cover both or two cloths the same so it looks at first sight like all the same.

We got a couple of sheets of MDF from B&Q and taped them together really well with gaffer tape. Then we put some non slip mat on our current table, put the MDF on top and stuck it down with blu tack. A tablecloth on top and it was fab!

That said, our table was already extended so it supported the extra size well.

Mum uses a folding plastic table like this one... here

I can't remember if it folds in half but it's definitely a very similar style when up. She pops a table cloth over it and it's totally fine for Christmas dinner. It lives in the garage when not in use. Probably much cheaper than a table extender.

Memories 😊 I remember many a fold out table with a Xmas cover over it for dinner. I thought that's what most people did if they were having extra guests for dinner 🙂

Thanks all! Will look at fold out table - just as ours is a round table it will have a jutty out end with a fold out table.
