BA flight seat help

Hi,

I need to book my seats on my upcoming flight to the US. What's the best seats to choose? The 4 selected across the middle row or the 2 rows of 2. Obviously a different cost. It's me and DH travelling with 2 kids 17 and 13. My DS always complains he never gets to look out the window which is why I thought the 2x2 might be better.

With the 2x2 everyone gets either an aisle or window seat, my preference is window DHs aisle, I don't like being in the middle. What are the preferences of your family?

PinkflowersWhiteBerries · 12/11/2023 18:11

4 across is fine when you are all one family, but you may find that people are served drinks / food etc slightly out of synch ( though probably not hugely)
Personally I like the 2x2 but that’s a big difference in cost for the 4 of you.

RunningFromInsanity · 12/11/2023 18:24

That’s a fair amount of money to look out a window.

Can you do ABDE? He gets his window and it’s a bit cheaper.

Orangello · 12/11/2023 18:27

I always book 2-2

MadMadMad · 12/11/2023 18:28

2-2 are definitely the better seats but at a cost.

This is what I was thinking. You can look out the window at the back of the plane anyway,

BitofaStramash · 12/11/2023 18:30

2x2 is by far the best

nibblessquibbles · 12/11/2023 18:30

Personally I'd do all 4 in the middle with you and DH at either end

FindRachel · 12/11/2023 18:31

It depends on how much money you want to spend on your trip. £280 so that dh can look out of a window isn't something I would prioritise on a family holiday but if it's really important to him then I would.

ShatteredPeace · 12/11/2023 18:32

That looks like club class to me? I'd definitely go 2 and 2. The ones in the middle get a bum deal otherwise.

NeedingCoffee · 12/11/2023 18:34

We’ve flown that plane and specifically picked the 2x2 seats - they’re a known “thing” as it’s where the plane narrows just too much to fit in 3 seats but you have much more room that would normally be allocated to 2 seats. The seats aren’t wider themselves but no one bumps your isle side arm, and there is space between the window seat and the wall. It felt like we had more legroom too although don’t quote me on that.

Doggymummar · 12/11/2023 18:37

I wouldn't pay for seats personally but if I were going to 2x2 would be my preference or over the wing

Torganer · 12/11/2023 18:37

2x2. Sit the children together, buy a good book, and relax with a glass of whatever floats your boat.

G5000 · 12/11/2023 18:42

it's not club, 4-class 777-200 economy I believe. As pp says, the layout is normally 3-4-3 but the back of the cabin is 2-4-2, so you will have more room in 2 seats

GrumpyPanda · 12/11/2023 19:11

Take a look at seatguru.com.

LemonCurd1 · 12/11/2023 19:12

2x2 better but £280 vs £120

PuttingDownRoots · 12/11/2023 19:16

Is there definitely a window? And not looking out over a wing?

LIZS · 12/11/2023 19:18

2x2. But if you leave it you may be able to get them foc on checkin

Mumaway · 12/11/2023 19:18

2 2s, no question

IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism · 12/11/2023 19:20

2x2 on the way out and across the middle on the way home (will most likely be dark for much of the time).

ohyesohyesoh · 12/11/2023 19:23

We booked (& paid for )specific seats with BA and on the return leg of a recent journey. The plane then changed ,& the configuration of the seats was all messed up I was really pissed off. A long haul flight and the party weren't sat together. Ruddy fuming !!!

ohyesohyesoh · 12/11/2023 19:23

But to answer your question -sorry I distracted myself ! - we paid for 2x2

MiniCooperLover · 12/11/2023 19:30

You need to check Seat Guru, that'll tell you the best seat
