Does anyone get anxiety before a holiday ?

We go on holiday to Gran Canaria tomorrow, well tonight as we are staying at the airport hotel tonight.
I'm full of anxiety just thinking of all the things that might go wrong.
Strangely tho I managed to get a good 8 hours sleep last night so feel refreshed but my stomach is churning.
Does anyone else get like this?
Im really excited but anxious at the same time

Yes! Even if I'm looking forward to the holiday, I still get anxious for a week or so before we go. We think of holidays as 'relaxing' but of course there's a lot to organise and stuff that could go wrong, and you're away from home and all that is familiar to you. I'm fine when I'm actually there.

Yes. And don't sleep. Same for journey home. Starting to think of staying in uk

bozzabollix · 12/11/2023 09:50

Yes, I am absolutely awful with holiday anxiety, you are not alone.

pinkpoloo · 12/11/2023 09:50

@Lottapianos I am exactly the same
Tomorrow afternoon once we at the hotel I will be fine.
I'm hoping a gin at the hotel tonight will help my anxiety

Yes! I try and tell myself it’s excitement

it will be worth it when you get there

Nippi · 12/11/2023 09:53

Oh god yes. I sometimes question whether it's worth it.
I love looking forward to a holiday though, for weeks or months. Then about 10 days before the anxiety sets in. It's mainly focussed around health as I have a number of health conditions which are normally fine but can flare up and I get very ill from infections. So my anxiety stems from whether DH or I will get ill before or during the holiday.
It disappears the monment I reach the hotel though.

Can confirm that staying in the UK doesn't always help either! Had The Fear before a recent holiday which actually turned out to be justified (3 hour planned journey actually took 3 times that, plus when we arrived kitchen was dirty and bed had been slept in!).

@pinkpoloo hope you enjoy yourselves when you get there Flowers

It is airport fear that gets me. Getting there on time, the queues, the stupidity of some in the security lanes, the FEAR of not having a space above my seat for my carry on. Other than that it's ok.

Lottapianos · 12/11/2023 10:23

'It is airport fear that gets me'

Same. Airports are THE WORST. We did a UK break last month where we got the train and my anxiety was 100 times lower than a holiday where we have to fly

It's called being nervous and it's normal.

Beamur · 12/11/2023 10:25

For me the anxiety starts weeks before, the night before I can't sleep. I really dislike travelling.
I'm not generally anxious but travel and increasingly driving I struggle with.

No. I enjoy the process of getting organised and giving the house a thorough clean so lovely to return to.

And then just excitement about change of scenery and sun and being spoilt!
