Stranger getting into hotel room

My son is away for the night with my husband, and he has just text me to say that a stranger got into the room and got into the bed with my husband in the night! How can this even happen? It's a premier inn, don't they have key cards?
I'm still waiting for the details from him but wow how terrible is that?!

We're just back from a holiday abroad and some random woman came into our room just as DH came out the shower.Apparently our door was faulty and didn't close properly behind us as the snib part would sometimes stick. The woman was on the wrong floor and thought her husband had left the door unlocked for her.

I've had this happen. As a solo female traveller it's fucking scary. I was in Edinburgh for work a few weeks back in a town house hotel and I piled all the luggage and chairs I could find up against the door. Only to find the findow in the bathroom was wedged open. I was on the ground floor. Didn't sleep a wink got up at 5 and got a train three hours early to get home.

Oh come on. That's over reacting. Edinburgh is hardly the Wild West! We are as civilised as any major city you know.

How does a door stop protect you against gunmen??

How often have you heard about gunmen rampaging around in hotels in the U.K.??? I'm thinking .... nope.

If you're in the US, obviously different but this site is predominantly U.K. based.

@AirFryerFrequentFlyer Yes, I was responding to a previous poster who mentioned gunmen in the US !

As someone else pointed out I probably should have quoted them to make it obvious.
I’m still curious to know how a doorstop would help though!

It’s not over-reacting at all. If you’re a solo female traveller and someone manages to enter your hotel room when you’re sleeping, you’re hardly likely to drift straight off back to sleep! I certainly wouldn’t, no matter how naice the location the hotel is situated in.

In fact, thanks to this thread I’m going to be taking a door wedge with me when I travel on my own now. I hadn’t realised how easy it is for people to enter your hotel room.
