Thinking of purchasing a Switch for DD8 and DD5. Complete gaming novice here, which games would you recommend for family fun. Thanks!

Mario kart is a great family game and Mario party.

LucyvanderPelt · 11/11/2023 23:37

Another vote for Mario Kart!

hilbil21 · 11/11/2023 23:44

Definitely Mario Kart

123 switch is great fun for all the family but one of the best games ever is Animal Crossing, more so for older child though. Carnival Games is also good. Like others have said, Mario Kart doesn’t disappoint.

KitCatKitty · 11/11/2023 23:59

Splatoon!

APurpleSquirrel · 12/11/2023 00:22

Definitely get the Switch with a docking station that connects with your TV.
Games my DC (9 & 5) enjoy are Pokémon Shield/Scarlet; Animal Crossing; Stardew Valley; Zelda: Breath of the Wild & Tears of the Kingdom; Hyrule Warriors; Sonic; Mario Kart; Overcooked; Minecraft; Kirby.

Mario kart is the most played in our house by far. Closely followed by Mario party. Dd went through a real phase of animal crossing but hasn’t played it for a good while now. Harry Potter Lego is good too but quite tricky.

Puffalicious · 12/11/2023 00:43

Mario Kart, Mario Party 9, Splatoon, Spongebob, Luigi's Mansion, Minecraft.

Looking to buy Zelda & Animal Crossing this Christmas.

DS had the Switch Lite for the past 3 years. Just upgraded to the new OLED one with the docking station etc- my God the graphics are soooo much better.

Mario kart, obviously.

Mario Bros Wonder is the newest Mario game (just released) and it's looking to be a good one.

Kirby is excellent and I've never met a child who didn't love it.

Animal crossing might be OK for the 8 year old but the 5 yr old is too young. There's a lot of reading in it and it's more of a solo chilled out/ collecting game than action and adventure.

Zelda: Breath of the Wild is perhaps a little bit grown up, but could be worth a punt for the 8 year old if she's into fantasy stuff. It's one of the best games of all time. Or Zelda: Link's Awakening is a more child-friendly intro to Zelda :)

Following with interest. DC1 is 6 (not far off 7) and has asked for a switch for Christmas. I want to get him Mario kart because I enjoyed it as a child and it seems it's still popular! Wondering what else to get to start with - maybe Kirby? Or a subscription so he can try different games and we can give him his favourites for his birthday?

DC2 is 3 so too young really but if there's anything a 3yo could realistically have a go at, that might be worth a try!

Which Kirby would you recommend; the Forgotten Land or Return to Dreamland Deluxe? TIA!

Memom · 06/02/2024 20:51

I would say the switch that can go on tv rather than lite.
Lego city undercover, animal crossing, go vacation and switch sports are firm favourites

I haven't played Return to Dreamland. But if it's for a kid, Forgotten Land is going to go down well - it's a brilliant game. You can't go wrong with it.

For little cheap fun games, there is an offer on Nintendo online for the food truck tycoon style games. So much fun if you like fast paced, serving customers the right order games. I’ve been downloading all of them (around 89p a game) and having great fun.

BugsyDrakeTableScape · 07/02/2024 07:23

Second Mario Kart, Mario Party, Mario Wonder Mario Wonder can be done as 2 player and my 3 year old likes 'helping' as the others play (without crucially ruining their game)
My 8 year old also loves Animal Crossing, just Dance and Kirby
