Has anyone washed AirPods and they survived?

Did a clothes wash a few days ago and during the spin cycle, my AirPods luckily connected to my daughters phone (no idea why but if it had been my phone I'd have missed it and tumble dried them too). I found one in the case and one in the door of the washing machine. They made a high pitched noise for days and now sound like they're still in the washing machine.

I read to keep them in rice and to absolutely not put them near rice because of the starch. To hair dry them and to absolutely not so I left them near a radiator.

Anyone lived to tell the tale or do I just bite the bullet and replace?

A pair of cheap ones survived a long cycle here. Are they Apple Air pods or cheap ones?
I would keep them in rice. It works with phones.

Colalola · 11/11/2023 06:51

Yes even my OHs Samsung ones have had a few spins!

letsgetamoveon · 11/11/2023 06:52

My son left his in his work trousers that I washed, only noticed when I went to check on the washing and one was in the door. I left them on the radiator for a few days and they were as good as new... and very clean!!

I went swimming with them on my bikini top fully submerged for 20 minutes and were fine.

Give them time to dry out.

They were in the case though.

Sparehair · 11/11/2023 06:53

Don’t know but I ran mine over with my car yesterday 🤦‍♀️ if it makes you feel better.

MyDogSmellsTerrible · 11/11/2023 06:55

Yep. Mine went through the wash.

When I first used them they were a bit muffled but as they dried out they were completely fine.

My son said there are things on YouTube to play which forces the water out by the vibrations but mine has fixed themselves by the time he told me!

KnowYouAreLoved · 11/11/2023 07:02

I washed and tumble dried mine (not apple, different brand) and they were fine once recharged! I was amazed.

I washed a pair of AirPod pros and used the app to expel the water and left them on the radiator and they are almost fine, the noise cancelling setting doesn’t work but they work as normal airpods. I hope they dry out for you, so frustrating but easy done x

Oh God, that made me laugh😆 Sorry, I'm sure it wasn't that funny, but reminds me of something I would do!

Did they survive? This is somewhat more dramatic!

Sympathy. My Apple Watch went through the washer and tumble dryer last week. Whoops.

The face is a bit scratched but it’s unscathed apart from that!

TheIoWfairy · 11/11/2023 10:56

No help to you, but a few years ago I accidentally put my pedometer through the wash. It survived and said that I'd done 2000 steps! I hope your AirPods survive the experience.

Yes! Case is just a bit concave now.

MaloneMeadow · 11/11/2023 18:37

DD’s have survived multiple trips to the washing machine and somehow have still worked perfectly when I’ve discovered them freshly cleaned each time 😆

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 11/11/2023 18:46

DS’s have survived 2 washes after drying out and charging.

I have a little plastic cover for my Apple Watch. I remember the absolute devastation of the first scratch. They're available in Amazon and I really recommend.

I used them Saturday afternoon while cleaning. I think the noise cancelling may be gone and when no sound is playing, the right one sounds like it's still in the washing machine but they're perfect ish when sound is playing. Phew.

I got them on a Clubcard deal with a phone so will be paying for them until April 2025. I think £6 a month.
