Just talking to my BIL about days which changed the world/where we were and I was wondering if anyone was working at Lehman in 2008 on the day of the crash? What happened? I was in secondary school
and pretty unaware of it, other than hearing it on the radio in my mum’s car.

No but I was working for a large accountancy firm and the shockwaves were felt in any such workplace directly affected by the macroeconomic conditions. Within days a significant redundancy process commenced. It was a huge shock as I was quite young at the time and had never contemplated such a thing and many of my colleagues were made redundant.

I was working in Canary Wharf that day. A lot of fairly shellshocked ex-Lehman folk wandering around with blank expressions.

I think The Big Short captured it pretty well, tbh.

My cousin worked for them in an admin role but was on maternity leave at the time. We are not close but I remember the family worry about her losing her job.

No, but I worked in the same industry.

The worst thing was the media taking photos of people who’d just lost their jobs carrying their stuff in boxes out of the office and jeering at them. I thought it was disgraceful.
