I cant do a thing.

I cant brush my teeth, open jars, brush my hair. I cant even hold a pen properly 😭

I can write legibly but messily, and draw reasonably well.

Irritatedandfedupandsad · 10/11/2023 20:05

I am left handed but can do most stuff with right hand. I cannot iron with left hand or use mouse, scissors but I j have to eat left handed! My handwriting is absolutely awful!

When I apply mascara I do the right eye right handed and the left eye left handed!

Me too!

IrresponsiblyCertainAboutSexualDimorphism · 10/11/2023 20:07

Most things, but not as well. However I do some things (apparently) totally left handed e.g. get money out of my purse and deal cards. I can mirror write with my left hand better than I can write the correct way round with my left hand.

I used to work in a team of 8 that were 50:50 left and right handed, and two of the right handers were pretty ambidextrous.

AngeloMysterioso · 10/11/2023 20:09

Everything I can do with my dominant hand except write neatly (I’m ambidextrous).

switching hands with chopsticks is a great show-off trick.

That is healthy, it messes you up neurologically to be ambidextrous

Me and my son just tried to write with our other hands, i cant even do a lower case a 😂 its actually really frustrating when you try and just cant do it

dont do it, and Definitely dont encourage your son to - it can be very damaging

Can you explain what you mean by that?

VivaciousRadish · 10/11/2023 20:22

I’m right handed, but can write, draw and sew with my left hand, but I’m the odd one out in my family, as my mum, two brothers, husband and one daughter are all lefties

I'm dyspraxic because I am ambidextrous. That is quite extreme, obviously not everyone ambidexterous becomes dyspraxic, but some do, and many develop less extreme neurological problems, there is a strong correlation between using your none dominant hand too much and developing a stutter, for example ( I also stutter)

BarneyAteMyHomework · 10/11/2023 20:25

I do quite a few things with my non-dominant hand. The one thing that always seems to surprise people is that I actively choose to use a computer mouse in my non-dominant hand - to me that’s just sensible, as it means I can operate the computer with one hand and write notes with the other!

Surely2023IsTheYearForMyRainbowBaby · 10/11/2023 20:25

Write left handed, but eat right handed. Butter bread right handed but cut bread left handed. Can only use right handed scissors, used to play most sports right handed. Also apply mascara with both left and right hand

MyCircumference · 10/11/2023 20:27

vape
change gear
i type with both hands,

MyCircumference · 10/11/2023 20:29

they used to force left handed people to use their right hand, did that cause more problems @secondfavouritesocks

Mumaway · 10/11/2023 20:31

I can play piano and perform very delicate surgery on other humans, but can't brush my teeth.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 10/11/2023 20:35

I can write with both hands but am predominately right handed.
But I can only open bottles with my left hand and use a felling axe with my left hand.

Sometimes I can use a screwdriver better with my left hand. I catch things better with my left hand too.

LindorDoubleChoc · 10/11/2023 20:37

Loads. I often switch between hands doing things repetitive things like cleaning or pruning in the garden to give my dominant hand a rest. I can write legibly too, but wouldn't say I'm fully ambidextrous. I'm possibly slightly unusual in that both my parents are/were left handed and I am right handed.

Simonjt · 10/11/2023 20:37

Quite a lot, but I’m left handed and a pianist, so my non-dominanr hand gets a lot of use, even more so as the world is designed for right handers.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/11/2023 20:39

Quite a lot, I wonder if playing the piano helps.

CMOTDibbler · 10/11/2023 20:39

Nothing now as I lost the use of it, but before that I was ambidextrous - to the extent when I was 7 and had terrible handwriting my mum spent a summer making me practice with my left hand to see if it was better (it wasn't). I am also left footed and right eyed.
DH is very strongly left handed, but can't use a left handed corkscrew, but I can. I am clumsy though

Justcallmebebes · 10/11/2023 20:42

Well I'm right handed and I'm currently typing with my right hand and holding my wine glass with my left. So that's pretty talented

greglet · 10/11/2023 20:44

Quite a lot. I’m not ambidextrous but can get by with my left hand for most things. Can't brush my teeth left-handed, though!

Teafoot · 10/11/2023 20:46

When I arrive at work I need to put a tick in a box next to my name. If I have bags in my right hand, I have to put them down.

YouWontHearTheLastOfIt · 10/11/2023 20:48

I can -
Butter bread
Make a cup of tea
Brush my hair

The Physiotherapist made me practice those things when I had a stroke a couple of years ago.
