Am I worried for nothing?

Hi,

I’ll start off my saying that I am an over thinker, I’m totally aware of this and suffer from anxiety (I’m actively working on this and have been for years). I should also add, I was bullied in high school by my so called “friends”.

My DS who is 7 is outgoing, friendly but also sensitive, he’s not big on the whole rough play thing but he can hold his own.

Recently however he has mentioned a few times about one boy in his class who pushes him a lot. I told him to push back (in a perfect world words would be enough but speaking from experience hitting back works better). DS refused to push back so the boy continued, apparently he only does this to DS.

Today DS finally pushed back and told the kid off. The boy seeming backed off. I decided to email the teacher to keep an eye on things.

DS has told me his friends hit and push him sometimes but they do it to others too in their group, so at least it’s not just him. Is this normal?

Am I wrong to be a little concerned? I am over reacting?

He is my first born so this is all new to me.

thanks

I think, as your DS has pushed back, I would watch and wait. It might have been enough for the bully to back off. Some kids just like to play rough, not acceptable but it's how some kids are. I might have spoken with the school before now. The teachers get a feel for which kids might throw their weight around. I had an issue with my eldest DC, spoke with the teacher pretty soon and she soon sorted it out.

My other DC and his friend have both had their new knitted winter hats destroy this week by rough play in the playground, 2 different kids (cool hats, decorated in a favourite style, but still). I'm pretty pissed off but won't do anything yet, other than repair their hats.

That’s my hope. It’s only been recently that he’s told me about it. Thanks very much, your reply has actually calmed me down a little thankyou.
Sorry to hear about the hats, hopefully it won’t happen again.
