If you work a part time, term time job in a business support role in a school, are you allowed to take annual leave or are you paid in leui of leave?

Depends what your contract says. Generally, school-based jobs have the school holidays off and don’t have annual leave.

Thank you. I was considering applying for a fixed term post but I have holidays booked that would fall within term term so just wanted to check.

Hi OP. For the holidays you have already booked, they are likely to allow you to take them unpaid so long as you mention them
before accepting the job. Most school interviews I’ve been to have asked whether I have any holidays booked.

They may well honour a pre-booked holiday if you tell them at interview. If you have 4 term-time holidays booked, they may be much less keen!

Thanks both, that's good to know. I've applied so if I get to interview stage I'll definitely mention it then. It's 2 holidays, each for a week and 2 months apart. The position is only 12hrs a week anyway so hopefully wouldn't be too much of an issue if I were successful.
