Are GPs under some sort of supervision to ensure they aren’t over referring unnnecessarily?

I am just curious as you often read on here about people having difficult convincing their GPs to refer on to hospital. And people ending up having to go private to get a diagnosis. And I don’t really understand why the GP wouldn’t refer if the patient is worried.

well of course you do, you're paying so they will refer even if completely inappropriate. If it's a private referral then it's your money, if an NHS one then you risk sitting for a year on a waiting list for something that your GP could have managed. Services like Babylon are not known for good medicine and everyone I know in the medical profession has rejoiced that Babylon appear to be going bust.
